The University of Michigan announced today that Michigan and Notre Dame will play every year for the next 25 years. Twenty-five years of UM/ND! Twenty-five years of heading to Ann Arbor and South Bend for one of the best college football rivalries around. Twenty-five years of going to Ashley's after a Michigan victory in Ann Arbor or celebrating a Michigan victory in South Bend by going to... um... Chili's?

A great day for college football in general.

the differing responses to the news. you're joyous. MSC not so much. MGoBlog just confused (like WTF). MVictors not shouting from the rooftops, but is positive on the whole thing. most seem to agree that Bo is turning over somewhere.

I do like the fact that we have a marquee NC opponent for the next quarter century (by which time I'll be less than a decade from retirement!), but what of other potential marquee NC matchups? no UGA? no UT (TX or TN)? no Rutgers (damn, Rutgers = marquee now?)?

I think this is garbage.

I would much rather see Michigan play other, better marquee games. What does Michigan get from this series, aside from tradition, which UM already has plenty of?

Different Takes For Everyone

It's weird. Everyone's a little different on how this impacts Michigan Football.

I personally think it's great just because I really, really enjoy the games. My wife is a domer. I have a lot of domer friends. And I always have a good time in South Bend when I go to the games.

Joey's right to an extent, it is kind of a no win scenario. We win, we're supposed to. We lose, w00t! ND4EVA!

But I think this rivalry is about to get big again. I don't think Weis is the genius everyone makes him out to be, but he's a decent coach and he can recruit. Seriously, look at the 5 star talent he's roped in. Over the next two decades this will be one of the Marquee games in ALL of college football. THE bell weather game for the early season. All eyes will be on UM/ND. The winner is a legit MNC contender, the loser can get there with help because they played the winner. I think its great.

I'm a little concerned that this will forestall some better matchups, but not that much. You can't get away with one marquee and three patsies. I think Michigan will schedule another big name to go with ND. I'm still pulling for Georgia.

BTW- Joey - excellent stuff. We'll have to agree to disagree, but great piece.

I want Michigan to be fearless and play the best. It makes Michigan better.

I will agree that the ND rivalry may heat up some again since Weis elicits strong opinions and he's putting together a nice roster.

Disappointed, too

I realize I'm probably living on Planet Naive, but I would've rather seen Michigan (and all other Big Ten teams) freeze out Notre Dame, and try and force the Irish to join the Big Ten.

I'd also would've rather seen Michigan take the opportunity to play other schools in different parts of the country. Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, etc. Add some spice to the schedule.

This is a great rivalry, but I feel like it does more for Notre Dame at this point than it does for Michigan.
