Your Matchups

Sugar:

Utah vs. Alabama

Fiesta:

Ohio State vs. Texas

Orange:

Cincinnati vs. Virginia Tech (enjoy that one...)

Rose:

Penn State vs. USC

Championship:

Florida vs. Oklahoma

These are some pretty good matchups if you ask me.  That Orange bowl might be a great game, but only because both teams are equally meh.  It'll be interesting to see if Utah can hang with Alabama.  More thoughts tomorrow.

Not impressed with the matchups

I’ll be surprised if Utah loses by less than 30 to Alabama, and likewise with OSU vs. Texas. There should have been a Texas v. Alabama matchup to go with the Oklahoma v. Florida game. And the BCS needs to get rid of that stupid “only 2 teams from one conference rule” as well as the non-BCS schools getting automatic bids rule. Texas Tech is much more deserving than Utah. Having Michigan as a marquee win is usually a good thing, but apparently the BCS voters didn’t watch many of our games this season.

Cincinnati v. VT will be a decent game, even if they’re not that great of teams. USC should handle PSU fairly easily, but at least we have a Big Ten champ v. Pac Ten champ matchup for the first time in about 1200 years. For once, it seems like the National Championship will actually be the best game on the schedule. I think Texas got screwed, but it was by the system. You can’t blame Oklahoma for taking care of business after the Texas loss. Obama, please get us a playoff.

Not upset about Utah

I’m completely fine with the automatic inclusion for non-BCS conference teams with a 6th or better ranking. The thing that really kills me is the BCS conference champion rule. VT and Cincy should be nowhere near the BCS bowl game discussion. There should be a rule that excludes any conference champion that is not in the top 10 or 12 of the ratings. With the top 12, Cincy would be included, but VT would not be close. I think the current rule is something like a conference having to average a top 16 ranking over 3 years to be included.

Weak rationale in favor of Oklahoma – except for the loss, Oklahoma took care of business. Umm, so did Texas. It’s not as if they were ekeing by teams. Their average MOV after the TT loss was 31 pts, average score was 43-12. That’s dominant.

Hope you’re being facetious with the whole Obama thing.

Full of Meh....

For a while I thought it was just my own sour grapes cuz like we didn’t get to a bowl this year, but uglierrob1 is right. I got a feeling that Oklahomo and Ho-ihda will be decided in the first quarter, too. But, I still don’t want a playoff. Be too much like the NFL, and the NFL suwks donkey diwks. Of course, I did, at one time, wear an onion on my belt.

Probably just have a pole installed in my bedroom and make my wife entertain me on New’s Years day. Got a line on some inhaler Viagra. Might just check that out.

VT-Cincy: Lowest ratings ever / BCS debacle

And for good reason. While one might argue that it’s a good match-up, so too will the Humanitarian Bowl. But I’m pretty sure none of us will be frothing at the mouth for a Nevada/Maryland showdown. VT and Cincy will be a good match-up, but it has no business being played on New Year’s Day.

This system is broken and stupid. OU in the title game after losing to Texas on a neutral field is a disgrace. The Utah bloodletting will give all new meaning to Crimson Tide. The Bucks have no business being in that game; it should be a UT/Tech rematch. Of course we need a playoff. Not so CFB can look like the NFL, but so it can look like EVERY SINGLE FREAKING SPORTS ENDEAVOR ON THE PLANET! Currently, the BCS is closer to women’s figure skating than to the NFL. Only figure skating is better b/c at least it has a prelimary round where it filters out the garbage and then the final 8 compete for a subjective title.

Plus, figure skating has girls. I likes me some girls.

I dunno, 119 teams—-you really never are gonna figure out which is the BEST team—just the best team of whomever is chosen to participate in the playoff. I mean, it would be great for the fans. Bad for the players. But, you could be COMPLETELY right.

Anywho, I’ll love the Wolverines even if they never win a mythical NC. Grew up with them. Its in my blood.

Not so bad after all....

I don’t think it would be too, too bad for the players. In most models, many of the bowls still survive in some form to ensure the games are played on neutral fields. The players of those teams awaiting bowl games today still practice daily in preparation for their bowl game and next season’s player development (the real reason I’m bitter the Wolverines aren’t in the Sun or Poinsetta Bowl). I don’t see the difference in knocking out a couple of playoff games during that time. I’m sure the players would prefer to play a few games rather than wait from mid-November until early January to play. I won’t be perfect; we shouldn’t expect that. But a playoff of some sort would be a clear improvement over the BCS match-up disaster atop this discussion.

NOTE: ice skating has waaay better outfits, too!
