i dont know what's worse
the fact that rich rod’s gonna probably get a 3rd year at michigan, or that michigan will probably finish 5-7 after starting 4-2. It’s like the Lions of ‘07. Speaking of the Lions, I have more faith in the Lions next year than Michigan. Next year michigan’ll have to replace most of their starters on the o-line, brandon graham, brandon minor, and carlos brown. The future looks worse than the economy.
Why would we get rid of Rodriguez?
This year was going to be better than the suck that was last season, but anybody who looked at our defensive depth and freshmen quarterbacks and thought that we’d easily make a bowl game is either an incredible optimist or a unrepentant homer. Has Rodriguez made some errors as Michigan’s head coach? Absolutely, but none justify Michigan taking the ridiculous step of firing him after only two years.
Calm down… youth and a serious lack of depth and talent. This is year one redux.

Stop making excuses for Rich Rod
Our defense is worse than last year’s, if you compare it against quality opponents. I agree that we are not as talented as Penn State, Ohio State, and so on. But to lose to Purdue at home. Purdue is not more talented than Michigan. I just can’t believe that. Illinois is not more talented than michigan. Indiana isn’t either and we should have lost that game too. We are not developing players. Period. Clock management is bad. Play calling is bad. Defense is non-existent. If not Rich Rod, who do we blame (and don’t say Bill Martin)?
Schafer
I thought he was an unfair scapegoat for last year. Look at games that were won/lost and figure out if Schafer was to blame.
Utah? No, in fact the defense in the second half got them back in the game.
Toledo? Despite letting them hold the ball forever, they only gave the rockets 13 points.
Notre Dame? Yakety sax.
Illinois? Yes, we can give that one to him.
MSU? Maybe, but this probably had more to do with talent/experience than schemes.
OSU? See above.
Purdue? At this point in the season RR was trying to get him to run a 3-3-5, which he had never used before.
PSU? Can you blame a loss to the Big Ten champs on Schafer here?
Northwestern? I can’t remember, but for sake of the argument, we’ll place the blame on Schafer.
The wins? Incredible job against Wisconsin, enough against Miami (NTM) and good against Minnesota.
Just my opinion, but I really think there needs to be a re-examination of whether Gerg was the right choice.

Light a man afire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
It's not excuses, it's facts
If you look at the numbers, from 2005 to 2009, Michigan has lost more defensive players to attrition than Alabama, a team with a head coach who was actively trying to get rid of as many players as possible to make room for higher-rated players. At the same time, our defensive classes have been significantly smaller than most of our biggest rivals. It would be damn tough to build a quality defense given these debilitating factors, our defense is in the same position this year as the offense was last year. We need a huge upgrade in talent and will get it starting this year, but it will take time for these new players to mature and adjust to the college game. Some defensive coaches may lose their jobs, Jay Hopson’s probably on the hot seat and deservedly so given our linebackers level of play this season and last.
Oh my fucking God
what the hell makes any of you nay-sayers think that in ONE season RR would be able to completely change the entire offense and turn it into a contender? You need certain players to make a certain offensive system work. It takes time to build a juggarnot.
what the hell makes any of you nay-sayers think that GR in his first season would be able to get his players in all 11 defesive positions so that he could run his defensive system? Again, you need certain players to make a certain defensive system work. It takes time to build a juggarnot.
all of you boo-hoo fans make me fucking sick. so let’s fire the fucking lot of them and start over? who do you hire as head coach? all i hear are crickets singing. RR will have a winning record next season, along with a bowl birth. in two seasons we will be talking BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIP, and a top ten ranking in the BCS. for all of you instant gratification jackasses, go root for some other college.
in two seasons,
the “FIRE RICH ROD” chants will be goin. We have plenty of talent to beat teams like Illinois, MSU, and Purdue. Don’t say we don’t have talent on defense. We have plenty of 4-5 star recruits from years past that could start on most teams in the country. If the coordinators are the problem, Rich Rod should take over. If he can’t because he wouldn’t know when to blitz on D, or when to pass on O, then he sucks. If a very talented offense can’t outscore a non-existant Purdue offense, then it has to be the coaches. Rich Rod got his qb. He’s a freshmen so he’s gonna make some mistakes. We have possibly the best group of running backs in the country. When Forcier is sucking, they should be able to run the freaken ball. The offense should be unstoppable with all that talent, and an “Offensive Wizard” in R.R. The only wizardry he’s been able to do is make a unstoppable offense suck against Illinois.
talent...
it takes more than talent to win football games. it takes execution, adhesion, understanding the defensive system, etc… you can not run the ball when you can not create holes for the running back to run through. specially when the defense puts 7-8 guys in the box. this is not the Lions. just firing the head coach without thinking of who you are going to bring in to replace RR is not the answer. you need to allow him is due time. every head coach in college football needs atleast four years.

don’t cherry pick my post with your response. respond to the whole post, not just the opening sentence. you have yet to name a coach you would replace RR with. Greg Robinson won two, yes two Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos. Nope, don’t want a coach with those accomplishments on the Meeeeeeeechigan sideline. Let us just fire the lot of them and bring in a coach, who we have no idea of who, and start the building process all over again. that makes zero sense. you can not be so quick to yank the rug out from under RR and his staff.
