Michigan Basketball Receives Tim Hardaway, Jr.'s Commitment!
via media.scout.com |
John Beilein just keeps raking in high class recruits. After impressing Beilein at Michigan's summer camp, Hardaway quickly accepted Michigan's scholarship offer. Hardaway is Michigan's second commitment in the 2010 class joining F Evan Smotrycz. As always, UM Hoops has your breakdown of the incoming 6'3"-6'4" guard.
Hardaway is exactly the type of player that seems perfect for the Beilein system. Very smooth with the ball, Hardaway is an excellent outside shooter. But he's not limited to that role. Hardaway has shown an excellent first step toward the basket and plays the pick and roll very well. ESPN threw some praise his way back in late May. Following his recruitment, there's been a significant up tick in not just his recruitment, but the praise for his game that's followed.
If you need numbers to justify a recruitment, Hardaway is a 3* recruit to both services, but is ranked #93 in ESPN's Top 100 for the 2010 class. Lanky at 6'3"-6'4", Tim, Jr. seems to be a perfect fit for the 1-3-1, able to play man defense but also able to clog the passing lanes with his arms and legs.
Great pick up by the Michigan coaching staff.

Excellent pick up for UM!
I’m a huge Warriors’-fan, and was but a child during the RUN-TMC days! Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond, and Chris Mullin- those were some high-flying days! Great to be a Warriors fan those days. (it was Tim Sr. who created the “cross-over” and jacked cats out of there high-tops!)
Here’s hoping Tim Jr. brings joy to the UM program and that the Wolverines make a good run of it with their incoming and existing players! Way to go UM!

Let's not forget Chris Webber
(most any Warriors fan has great and fond memories of CWebb. He was one of the best power forwards that ever wore the Warriors jersey. And a great Wolverine! Even though Chris wasn’t part of the RunTMC, both he a Spreewell, coupled with Chris Mullin and Tim Hardaway could have WON IT ALL. . . . .if not for the ego of Don Nelson. *&%$#!! ;- )

I hate Chris Webber...
Can’t forgive the illegal crap he pulled at Michigan. I realize I’m probably in the minority on this subject, but I hope he never sets foot on the Michigan hardwood again.
Webber hatin’ aside, I’m rally pumped about Hardaway’s commit. Great size and touch. He fits perfectly into the system and his ability to screen and roll will really add another dimension to Michigan’s perimeter and lane game. It’s an exciting time to be a Michigan basketball fan.

Picture this Dave
A skinny, refugee looking South American-born kid; new to the streets of Los Gatos, CA- WEARING A “M” CAP. . . .for like 3 years straight. I was probably the only pre-pubescent Michigan University fan in whole 40-mile radius just south of the Silicon Valley.
I was too young to remember the infractions he caused to the Michigan program, but I can tell you exactly what I was doing when he “called timeout” on that fateful championship game. (going from jumping up and down out of my skin, to plastered on the backyard lawn of my parents home ash-white from what he just did!)
Scratch that CWebb love from me then. (i still dig the bejeebus outta him, myself. hey- i’m a Trojan alum? we’re stupid, they say)

Damn, I spent my after-supper time reading up on Junior
Wow! There’s nothing but good things written about the kid.
Great defender/long arms-great “length”
20 ft + range/can also finish at the rim (20 FEET! That’s better than some new draftees this year!!!)
Smart player/advanced court awareness
A threat from 3 if the defender backs off
Understands angles and has above-average lateral quickness
Displays high-level ballhandling and passing ability at both guard positions
Comes from a strong family/no personal or social issues/deficiencies
WTF? Is this guy from another planet? (‘SC can use him. . . .just joshin’!)

He's been climbing
the lists for a while. Good NBA bloodlines. Great work ethic. Apparently just a good all around kid with his head screwed on right. Looks like TH Sr. raised a cool son. Hat’s off to the Dad.
