Stuff You Should Read Right Now

Ed note: Rather light on the Michigan Football news this week - rather, we're looking at the football landscape and various M odds and ends.

Grading the Wolverines - AnnArbor dot com looks at the football team at the midpoint of the season.  Optimism.  A bowl game means this is the midpoint.  Nice to see my man Kovacs getting some love, as well as highlighting the O-Line's stellar play thus far.  Three sacks allowed leads the Big Ten.

Big Ten Bowl Projections - Off Tackle Empire now has Michigan headed to the Gator Bowl versus Florida.  This seems a tad optimistic, but three-plus wins aren't out of the question for these Wolverines, provided they shake off the last three weeks of rusty play and penalty-ridden failure.

Comparing Conferences - OTE looks at the conferences using a variety of metrics, declaring the Big 12 the winner for Week Six of football action.

Star-divide

Michigan Football

As If the Loss Weren't Bad Enough - It seems a fan managed to sneak a few M-16 rifles onto the field dressed as a National Guardsman.  The rifles were unloaded, but it sounds like a pretty serious security lapse and an abuse of the uniform... Please, let no one at ESPN call Denard "M-16" ever.

Campbell to O-Line? - In another scary development for a highly-touted defensive recruit, Will Campbell might be moving to offense.  This move would leave Michigan even thinner behind Mike Martin, and further throws defensive recruiting into chaos.

RichRod on SI - SI dot com sits down with the M head coach and talks Denard, the 3-3-5, and, of course, his job security.

Big Ten Football

Bolden Injured - Penn State is dealt yet another blow, this time losing starting QB Robert Bolden indefinitely.  He should be out for next week's clash in Happy Valley.

Wisconsin Squeaks By Iowa - Looks like the top of the conference is highly competitive this year.  Looking forward to Iowa-Sparty next week, and I've never pulled so hard for Iowa in my life.

State Avoids Upset - State squeaks by in a game where N'Western QB Dan Persa threw to Tacopants at least five times, in particular airmailing wide-open receivers at the end of the game.  A Northwestern take on the game - might as well have been talking about Michigan -

The Wildcats are a team that sometimes does this (boneheaded coaching decisions and playcalling). Sometimes, they just don't seem to be able to get over the hump. They can thrill you one week and break your heart the next.

It's scary we're comparing Michigan to Northwestern, but both teams are 5-2 with some severe defensive questions and three winnable games left on the schedule...

College Football

Lookin' Around The Country - The Big House Blog has a few snarky reflections on a Michigan-less Saturday of college football.

Newton to Beat for Heisman - Denard's fourth in the latest Scripps Heisman poll, but this list changes weekly.  It's hard to argue with some of Newton's statistics and impressive wins thus far, with the latest coming over the Mad Hatter.

Putting the Student in "Student-Athlete" - Who says football players aren't intelligent?  These guys.  Lovely seeing ASU players rob their neighbors and... fellow teammates?

Michigan Basketball

Manny Makes the Cavs - Former Michigan guard Manny Harris has made the Cavaliers' final regular-season roster.  We wish him well this season, but what if he had stayed another year?  Where might he be this time next year instead of fighting to make a depleted Cavs roster?  From DetNews dot com.  In honor of the occasion, watch the sweet dunk below:

Incredibly Important YouTube Clip of the Moment:

Love the quote at the end... "like LeBron James on the fast break?" - Look where he is now.

Until next time, Michigan faithful.  Cheers!

Poll
Bye Week Poll: How will Manny Harris do this season?
Doesn't finish the season on the Cavs' active roster.

Meh. Minimal minutes in a development year.

A decent contributor on the abysmal Cavs bench, maybe 5 PPG.

Somehow wins the starting job and platoons with someone who can pass.
