I've seen the incoming class planned for 2011 on the Defensive Side of the ball. I see some good quality there, and am excited about the future. However, one of the biggest fallback responses to the pain and suffering of our defense is that "they're so young", or "they're mostly freshman". Pinning all our hopes for a defensive revolution on incoming freshmen is hard to accept. Once again, we'll have one of the youngest defenses in the country with mostly Sophomores and Freshmen in the lineup.
Why can't UM supplement some of our slots with some JC Prospects? All the big football powers seem to go this route. I know it is not a long-term strategy for success, but it can help bring experience and size into the program since most Freshman need seasoning and a year of workouts under their belts.
I don't even recall ever seeing a JC recruit for UM. Is it the high academic standards? Does UM have rules against JC transfers? Just curious, and opening the topic for discussion. If UM were to bring in JC players, who follow that level enough to know who is worth a shot?
Thanks in advance for feedback & opinions!
