On Tap: Your Friday Drinking Instructions Is Really All That's Going On
I've checked my RSS. I've looked around the interwebz. There's nothing worth talking about. With the exception of Michigan's 18-4 romp over Iowa in its first game of the Big Ten Baseball Tournament, I think we've all had enough of this week. Fortunately, it's Friday. And that means it's time to start talking beer. Good beer. American beer. As it is Memorial Day weekend, let's find a good American lager that goes down smooth on a sunny summer afternoon as we grill out and give thanks for the freedoms so many have given so much to provide for us.
Along those lines we're picking something light, not to heavy on the alochol, and something you can simply enjoy without weighing you down with too much sugar or heft.
You Friday Drinking Instructions: The Half Acre Brewery's Gossamer Golden Ale

You can find this tasty Golden Ale, or perhaps more appropriately described as an American Blonde Ale, in 16 oz cans or on tap. If you're outside of the Chicago area, you're probably stuck with pouring it out of a bottle or can. It's tasty. It goes down easily. It's a light feeling beer but without a loss of taste. You'll find it's a perfect compliment to sitting in the sun and relaxing with your friends and/or family. It may be hard to find, but it's worth it.
So go forth, my minions, and imbibe. As always, report back when you've had your fill.

Speaking of American beer.. Have you tried any Stone brews? One of my favorites…

You've been down too long in the midnight sea...

Hooray Half Acre!
This is my local brewery; I fill the ol’ growler up at the tap room every other week and work with one of their part-time brewers at my job. The Gossamer is a nice, summer-y beer that is for those who like to follow the mowing of their lawns with a beer that satisfies their inner-beast and beer aficionado at the same time. Good call, Dave: thanks!

Wasn't going to do this
but then I got dragged into taking some out-of-towners all around Chicago today. My wife asked me to take my 5 year old daughter with me who, after one hour in the Loop, declared she was too tired to walk any more. So in 80 degree, bright and sunny weather, I carried my way-too-heavy kid around for 3 hours more-or-less without stopping. On the drive home I made a bee-line for Half Acre, bought a 4-pack of the Gossamer, and am currently plowing through it. Beer has never tasted so good…
…oh, how does it taste? Well, it’s really not a Belgian golden ale so much as an American-style pale ale using Belgian malts. It’s super-biscuity but maintains a vaguely floral, noble hop quality (Hallertau perhaps?). It’s light and it’s mild bitterness makes for a fiendishly refreshing brew. Sorry to go full-beer-retard, but this was the perfect beer for my situation today.
