We Want Your Best Michigan Ohio State Stories

We were recently approached by a national magazine of considerable repute with a simple request: Tell us about your best Michigan Ohio State Traditions. More importantly tell us about your experiences traveling to and from THE GAME and/or tailgating for it.

With Nebraska joining the Big Ten next year, the 2010 edition of THE GAME may well be the last time many of our cherished get togethers and crazy stories take place in the traditional November time slot. We're not oblivious to those implications, and frankly if things change it will be really sad to see them go. As a result, we can't think of a better time to celebrate those traditions than right now. (Remember folks, even though I'm on record as supporting the changes that have tohappen with Big Ten expansion, I'm not immune to the sentiment. I love tailgating for THE GAME. I love the atmosphere. I love the anticipation. There are a lot of wonderful thigns that will be lost if THE GAME is moved, and that is one of the reasons we're asking for your stories.)

If you've got a story about a lobster boil tailgate for good luck (I've been to it);a "WTF just happened!?" trip to Columbus; or any great, funny or downright scary experience related to THE GAME we want to hear about it. As a bonus, you might find your name and story in a major publication when the game arrives. Provided you want it there (Remember, you have to sign off it!). So let share some memories, tell some stories and get ourselves ready for the 2010 Michigan Football Season!

Any opinions expressed in Fanposts or Fanshots are not the opinions of Maize n Brew. Peruse at your own risk.

'97 UM/OSU Game

It’s the 1997 edition of The Game and I’m sitting in the North End Zone as OSU lines up to punt. I turn to the stranger sitting next to me and remark how Charles Woodson is due to have a big return. The punt goes up in the air and into the waiting arms of our hero, finds a seem, and races along the sideline to the distant end zone – all the while me and my new found friends are holding each other by the forearms and jumping up and down, exclaiming “I called it! I called it!”. I’ll never forget that moment.

I have no good stories since Michigan has yet to beat Ohio State during the course of my fandom.

Although the 2006 game was exciting as hell.

LSU fan here and nothing scary or very funny--just my introduction to The Game.

Growing up loved college football—mainly LSU and SEC, but watched a lot of other teams also. We (LSU) did not and do not have a big rivalry game (Ole Miss, Tulane are the closets thing and there is still a lot of good natured hate for Ole Miss) like Alabama/Auburn, and I really got into those games in the 80’s because they were and are just fierce, hard hitting games—my favorite is 1985. You always hear about how great The Game is—even as a kid—and in 1986, I watched my first Michigan vs. Ohio St. game and it was awesome—great game with the same fierce intensity as IB and was a thriller to the end. Looking at the youtube video to refresh my memory, it was really cool to see Harbaugh in the wishbone and I am sure Frantz can’t watch this. Bragging rights, and Rose Bowl on the line, Jim Harbaugh, Chris Carter, Jamie Morris (5’ 7" 179 lb that packs a wallop as Musberger said)—not a bad first introduction to The Game for an eleven year old kid in Louisiana. Both The Iron Bowl and The Game were special then as they are today. Here is the video for the 86 game I used to refresh my memory— http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nt_62bcrotw

93 and 96 have a special meaning to me. . .

In both 1993 and 1996, Michigan not only defeated Ohio State but also ruined their chances to go to a national championship. . .Double Win!!

1978 MSU-OSU game

TV volume shut OFF, Ufer on radio turned ON. WR Rodney Feaster catching the game-sealing TD pass from Rick Leach. Dad spilled beer and some popcorn on my head and I was crying my eyes out. It was my first taste of beer, and my first memory of seeing my parents screaming and dancing around.
