Michigan loses another Safety, Vladimir Emilien to Transfer
Another day, another departure. Sheesh. What is it with kids these days? No drive or determination. If you don't succeed immediately, you transfer. Not a good thing folks. Not a good thing. Mgoblog reported it an Tom VanHaaren confirms it: Vladimir Emilien is leaving the program to transfer, and has been granted his release. This, of course, effects Michigan's depth in the secondary. But at least it's not like he was a starter. Still... man... does anyone have the stones to tough out anything anymore?

A bit puzzling...
It’s a little weird that he’s transferring now that he’s the #2 free safety with Van Slyke being out for the year. It’s disappointing that given the fact that Michigan stood by its offer to Vlad even after he tore his ACL, that he wouldn’t be more patient and at least finish out the season. Let’s hope that Cam Gordon stays healthy, otherwise we’re looking at either Marvin Robinson or Jordan Kovacs as the backup plan at free safety.
That's the part that's infuriating if you ask me...
You started the season with the team, you owe it to the team to finish the season at the very least. This will sound “get off my lawn-ish” but heaven forbid anyone take the time to try to improve themselves and re-earn playing time over the course of a career. Is that just a totally foreign concept these days? Perhaps the writing was on the wall and he didn’t recover from his ACL tear as well as many expected, but good GOD this is really horrible timing at a position that’s way too thin in the first place.
And like you said, Michigan stood by their offer even after he suffered the injury. That in and of itself does not demand special recognition, but it merits mentioning when the guy bolts like this.

And the impact will likely be minimal, unless
Cam Gorden gets injured. Even then Marvin Robinson will probably step in as a true freshman to start.
Vlad Emilien was a very talented athlete and expectations were sky-high for him coming in, but that knee injury really weighed him down. He obviously believes the grass is greener somewhere else. If he flourishes elsewhere, then that’s when my disappointment will really set in. I don’t understand how one can languish behind a walk-on at Michigan and still think there are major missed opportunities at another school.
I do feel bad for Vlad because he had a lot of promise at Michigan, and that injury was very unfortunate. As a Michigan football fan, I sincerely wish Vlad all the best and a prosperous career where ever he ends up.
