I’m somewhat confused by all that has transpired in the last 48 hours. Please correct me if I am wrong, which is very possible. Any simplified clarification would be great too.
We met with Les Miles Monday night. On Sunday and Monday, “sources” said Miles would take the job if it was offered. We never made an official offer, or did we?? Dave Brandon just had a “discussion” with Les Miles, and he never presented a formal offer. Maybe Miles wanted too much cash and DB wouldn’t pony up?? Maybe he was too entrenched and didnt’t want to leave LSU and the fertile recruiting grounds that surround him?? Maybe it was Hoke all along and DB just met with him to save face an appease the alumni and boosters who wanted Miles?? Did Les’ checkered past with alleged past UM coaches and wives have anything to do with it?? I've heard that older UM alumni weren't too fond of Miles' and his confidence.
Was anyone outside of Harbaugh, Les, and Hoke even offered or considered by DB?? Did they consider a Charlie Strong or KC Keeler? To say I am greatly disappointed in Jimmy Harbaugh is such an understatement!! If Les actually turned this down to stay somewhere where the fans will turn on him in a nanosecond and have already, that would be disappointing as well. Not that it couldn't happen here, but Baton Rouge is demanding to say the least. These two both exuded the style and person UM is looking to go back to, and it's very sad that they both turned their backs on UM at a time when UM needed them the most. ESPN said this is the worst three year stretch of any in UM history, and Miles will rest in his laurels in Tigerland? I hope that fat check was worth it Jim. I don't wish anyone ill will, but it wouldn't surprise me to see his pro coaching career mirror Nick Saban's. And Saban is a college guy I hold in very high regard.
I am glad for this: We have a guy who wants to be here and considers it his “dream job.” Have fun in the cookie cutter NFL Jim, I hope you are a re-incarnation of Singletary and go 6-10 until 2015. Way to turn your back on UM.
