Why Drew Sharp is Dumb and the Real Goals of the Michigan Program
Here's a link to Drew's column on the Detroit Free Press. I'd like to point out a few points that he made and how they can not coincide.
http://www.freep.com/article/20110112/COL08/101120452/1089/Hoke-a-sturdy-safe-pick-for-U-M
Drew starts off by saying "Michigan settled on Brady Hoke. There's no getting around that. Convincing the public that Hoke was the No. 1 candidate all along becomes an impossible sales pitch for athletic director Dave Brandon."
He then goes on to say, "It certainly looks as if this "national search" process was done for appearances -- appeasing the warring factions by making them think that Harbaugh and Miles were possibilities."
If the interviews and "interest" in Harbaugh and Miles were done to appease the "warring factions", then doesn't in mean that Hoke was the No. 1 candidate?
You can't have it both ways Drew! Either David Brandon was truly considering Harbaugh and
Miles or Brady Hoke was Michigan's true No. 1 choice. You can't have it both ways Drew.
Btw Drew, we all watched the press conference and saw how you were a crybaby with your question. Let's just say that all who watched it will take your columns on Hoke with a grain (or cup full) of salt.
The Goals of the Michigan Program are as follows.
1. Create Michigan Men, players who have high character on and off the field
this will lead to
2. Big Ten Championships because Michigan men excel in all facets of live.
this can lead to
3. National Champions because the winning the Big Ten, especially now with Nebraska joining, and a Big 10 Championship game means you're pretty damn good.
I'm sorry Drew, you just don't get it.

sharp is an anti-journalist
What he does to the English language equates to running claws down a blackboard (I had another metaphor, but that’s one that’s best left for in-person discussions). Ever since I started covering Michigan he has been a constant source of senseless and useless provocation and rage for no reason whatsoever.
My advice is never to read the Free Press again. He’s been on staff so long it’s obvious they’ll never fire him, so our best hope is for everyone to stop reading that paper in the hopes that when it finally goes under, it’ll take Sharp with it.

We’ve followed that trend for a while here at MnB, and I recall Brian over at our neighbour blog posting quite often asking people to stop beating the dead horse that is the freep. But Sharp was just inexcusably stupid at the presser. He was just trying to provoke Hoke (ooo, another rhyming word) and Hoke dealt with it admirably.

well
I don’t generally agree with MnB’s policy to ignore the Freep. I think it’s important to create a dialogue on what’s best for Michigan, and it’s important to address a variety of viewpoints. The Freep had some great points on RR that may have been incendiary but contained an amount of truth that should be noted.
The reason I felt the need to write against Drew Sharp’s column was because coach Hoke, in my opinion, logically explained to Drew, why he was incorrect. I also wouldn’t to explain a bit on how creating Michigan men is important to this program and how it relates to winning Big Ten titles. Hoke didn’t explain it the way I did, but I don’t think he would disagree with what I said.
Winning the Big 10 is important to Michigan but it’s important to win it the Michigan way, ethically and with success in all facets of student-athletic life. I don’t think Bo, or Brady would consider winning the Big 10 a success if they did it with students were in legal and academic trouble.
What would Yzerman do?
I must agree Dave
I never read the freep writters how ever I must confess I do read the comments by others.
I don’t think for a minute they settled on Hoke I believe hoke was who they were after from the get, however I do believe they played us all in the effort.
And for that I cannot hold my tongue!
it's not that you are stupid, it's just that you don't suspect!
Nothing is good nor bad until compared to something else.
He's a knucklehead
Sharp can’t write a well informed, well constructed article so he writes negative and controversial junk. He has to be the Wang, oops, I mean Yang to everyone else’s Yin. We keep reading him to see what idiocy he’s crapped out and the freep says “hey, this guy has some kind of readership! Another contract extension!” I’ll take MnB Dave’s advice.
Detroit Media
Just leave the Freep alone, all they ever put out is negative. Unless you like getting upset and pissed off in the early morning. At least Wojo tried to be objective and in following his opinons for a while you could see the evolution as to why he thought RR should be fired as opposed to the obvious hacks from Sharp/Rosenburg.
Aint living long like this
Well
Thanks for you post GabbyGoBlue. Personally, I get pissed off when people, such as Sharp, make opinions without actually thinking them out. They’re are plenty of ways to be critical of Michigan and back it up. There are also plenty of ways to say that Michigan is a Regional, not National Powerhouse. Drew did not do this and it pisses me off when people like him are in a position to influence other’s opinions. I understand that most of the people who read this blog are generally well educated on Michigan football, but if I can argue against someone’s flawed logic for the benefit of one fan, it is worth it to me… and it’s a bit therapeutic for me.
What would Yzerman do?
He is a complete dipshit...
I truly have no idea how this moron still has a job unless he has some nudey photos of the editor or something. He is a complete waste of time, and I think Hoke did a pretty good job of making him look that way. Like anyone didnt know anyways
The FREEP (Rosenberg and Sharp) are idiots
Glad someone wrote the article. Sharp complains about everything (Lions, Pistons, Tigers). His whole angle is negative. Funny how this article was posted BEFORE the press conference (I read it immediately following the press conference), and it was later adjusted to include the following
“Michigan will staunchly deny this, still content in a delusional world of national football importance, but Tuesday’s hire only confirms that the Wolverines lean more toward regional than national in their competitive scope.”
His logic is suspect & I’m happy Hoke shouted him down “I NEVER SAID THAT!!!” Was one of the highlights from the Q&A session. Here’s to hoping Hoke can restore some of these traditions, and, in so doing, shut the media down. Lloyd Carr/Todd Harris, “Why would you ask a dumb question like that” anyone?

The Freep isn't about real journalism....
it is more about making their journalists famous. Ever since they got Mitch Albom, it seems like they want to get a national name by building more nationally recognized journalists. Consequently they feature journalists that create their own news, as Rosenberg has.
Drew Sharp is a bomb thrower. He gets people reading him by putting forward ideas that he knows will enrage people. He doesn’t care if they are right or wrong. All he cares about is his relevance in the discussion.
