Around SBN: Ray Allen Fighting Age, Injury And His New Role

EE

Ok, I live and breathe maize and blue, but as long as shoelace is our qb, we're not going to go anywhere. He is electrifying at points, but very, very mediocre at other times. Granted, Hemingway dropped a couple passes today, but d-rob flat out missed some Some passes today as well as passes throughout the season. I think we should put Gardner in and have shoelaces as a wideout or use him in a wildcat formation. We can still win the division and big 10 championship, but I just don' t see denard leading us to where we want to go

As long as we continue to insist on using Denard as a pro-style QB, we’re not going to go anywhere. Denard is amazing as a spread-run based QB. Nobody wanted him as a pro-style QB out of high school, and we’re seeing why.

Agree

I say run read option every single play, nobody in the country is better than Denard at that. And frankly, I think it would make sense to have both Denard & Devin in the backfield at the same time running the read option.

You could have it out of shotgun, with an RB in the backfield at the same time, too. Those two could even alternate who the ball is snapped to, without having to change where they are lined up in the backfield! Now THAT would be impossible to game plan for.

disagree

Denard was not the reason they lost today. In fact he showed growth in the pro-style offense taking what Iowa gave him in the second half. Denard was not the reason Michigan lost today. The defense and the officials were. Those officials were putrid. Also, this is not a bad loss. Iowa is a much better team at home than on the road. I think this team will only go as far this year as Denard is going to take them. What has Gardner shown really? Not nearly as much as Denard. I actually wish they would use less Gardner during the game.

Agree...

…seems like Iowa attacked up front more when Gardner was under center and had to play on their heels more with Denard back there. However, I don’t blame the defense. They gave up only 15 first downs and 302 yards of offense. My biggest gripe is the play-calling down inside the 10. Why is the most dynamic runner in the nation dropping back in the pocket to pass down there instead of rolling out and looking to create something? That interception near the end of the half was a back-breaker but again, why is he passing in that situation? Also, Fitz was breaking off pretty good runs so why wasn’t he used there? I understand needing to pass at the end of the game with no TO’s left but again, roll him out and let him have the option to run it…Finally, the officiating was brutal. Hemmingway’s was a TD and there were at least 3 P.I.’s not called, especially the one on the last play…..

Numbers?

Devin not shown as much as Denard → Devin has maybe 12 snaps a game, no wonder he hasn’t shown as much.

How can you possibly say that the defense lost the game for us? The be-all and end-all of a team sport is that you win and lose as a team. The defense is no more responsible for this loss than Denard is.

I believe that Michigan football will not merely endure: it will prevail.

I will agree that the terrible officiating that last set of downs blew a possible tie game for Michigan, but if Denard doesn’t give away the ball twice giving Iowa 3 points from the fumble and taking 7 points from Michigan with the interception does Michigan have to worry about officiating in the last series of down to tie it up? Not to mention the number of overthrown receivers ( who still dropped a number that actually hit them).

BTW sorry for the run on sentence…
