Since Demar is from South Florida, I could not help but wonder who is paying for his matriculation at GRCC. Does he or his family pay? Obviously, he is not commuting to school as are the vast majority of community college students, who also frequently work to pay their tuitions and live at home. I have noticed this scenario in the past with athletes and always have wondered how they could afford to attend these schools so far away. Do the community colleges, which are two-year institutions, actually offer athletic scholarships? If so, I would have to question the use of funds for athletics in community college programs and feel doing so would be at variance with the mission of community colleges, i.e., giving people a second chance at an education. Schools are primarily educational institutions not training grounds for professional athletes.
