Fab Five Documentary

Being a Michigan fan my whole life, I very vividly remember watching the Fab Five. I was 7 years old when they came on scene in Ann Arbor and I remember watching those games with my Dad and brother like it was yesterday. I went out and bought baggy shorts, black shoes and socks, shaved my head, I wanted to emulate my basketball game after them, specifically Jalen Rose, he was always my favorite.

So, maybe going into this documentary I already had a biased opinion on who the Fab Five were. When Jalen and Jimmy King made their comments about Duke players, specifically african-americans being "Uncle Tom's", I thought it was clearly stated in the documentary that that's how they felt about Duke players when they were 18-19 year old college students. I believe they said in the documentary that as they got older and matured that they no longer had these feelings toward african-american duke basketball players.

I knew there would be controversy about this documentary and about their comments but I didn't think that they would get taken this far for something they thought 20 years ago. People are acting like they still have these feelings today, and I don't think that's true at all. Again, maybe because I have a biased opinion I took what was said a different way than others, but I could've sworn that it was clearly stated.

I can't take credit for this because it comes from a friend of a friend. This text message was sent to me during the Michigan/Duke game yesterday. "So Grant Hill tried to show he wasn't a pretentious Dukie by writing in the NY Times and acting like a pretentious Dukie?"

I thought this was fitting....

I couldn’t agree more however, and just love how the sports media heads and the failed grant hill tried to make a big deal out of it clearly they didn’t watch the program.
Don’t you hate it when people talk out there ass with half the information and the media trumps it up in an attempt to some how smear a University or team of young men.
A pox’s should be put up them.

I'm actually

switching back and forth right now between the Uconn/SDSU game, BYU/Florida game, and the Fab Five Documentary on ESPNU. It was most definitely clear as day Jalen said, "I USED to think black players who went to Duke were uncle Tom’s. Every word Jalen and Jimmy use about Duke is in the past tense. I know these high profiled journalists didn’t skip out on their english classes while at Northwestern or Vanderbilt. Like a shark that smells blood when it comes to controversy….
