Ray Vinopal leaves the team
Coach Hoke confirmed today the rumor that free safety Ray Vinopal has left the team to return to Youngstown for a family-related issue. It doesn't sound like Vinopal will be returning to school, this leaves a huge hole at free safety for Greg Mattison to fill. If Cullen Christian or Courtney Avery is able to step up and prove to be a starter at cornerback, I wouldn't be surprised if Troy Woolfolk is moved back to safety. The only scholarship free safety left on the roster is incoming freshman Tamani Carter, perhaps the staff would move Marvin Robinson or Josh Furman from strong safety to free safety.

I'm guessing
That Cullen Christian will end up at Safety. I wasn’t too taken with his wheels last season and I think that Avery has the highest upside of the freshmen that played last season. I’m hopeful that Robinson can play some safety and that Furman can play at linebacker. Robinson impressed the secondary players last season with his ball skills and Fuman played linebacker in high school (along with RB).
If I had to guess the CB1 Woolfolk, CB2 Avery, S Floyd, S Robinson
but that’s a guess.

Hoke has already said they have too many bodies at safety
which sounds weird, but Josh Furman, Thomas Gordon, Hawthorne, Marvin Robinson, Jordan Kovacs, Cullen Christian, Carvin Johnson, Tamani Carter could all play safety, not to mention Floyd or Woolfolk at safety, even though I think they’re going to end up at corner.

It makes sense
Rich Rodriguez recruited a lot of strong safety-type bodies for linebacker, most of them didn’t grow enough to stay at linebacker, moving back to safety is the only way most of these guys will have a chance of ever seeing the field.
