Michigan Football Adds Missouri DT Ondre Pipkins to Its 2012 Recruiting Class
Wow. Busy morning.
A little bit of good news to offset the news of the Darryl Stonum, Will Hagerup, and Terrence Robinson suspensions. Rivals, 247Sports, Mgoblog, and Scout are all confirming that 2012 Missouri Defensive Tackle has committed to Michigan. Pipkins is one of the elite Defensive Tackles in the 2012 class and a key commitment for the Wolverines who are in desperate need of prime time Defensive Linemen following Mike Martin's departure.
Pipkins is a consensus 4* DT (with the exception of ESPN who has him at 3*), whose offer list is a who's who of college football. He's in the Rivals 250 (#246), the Scout 300 (#102) and 247Sports' top 247 (#149). There's good reason for this. Over the last year Pipkins has been owning the summer camps and showing explosiveness and strength that make college (and NFL) scouts drool. At about 6'3, 320-ish, Pipkins is physically almost ready to step onto Michigan's line as a freshman. We'll see if that happens, but it's certainly a possibility. Pipkins was rumored to be close to committing at the Big House BBQ, but didn't drop the news after the event. I guess he wanted to think it over a little more. Welcome aboard Ondre.
Pipkin's commitment puts Michigan in a really, really strong position for the remainder of this recruiting cycle. Now at 22 2012 commits (23 if you count Clark's gray shirt), Michigan needs only a quality receiver to fill out the class. Everyone else is gravy. At this point it seems Michigan would happily take another top flight DT (perhaps Michigan DT Danny O'Brien or awesomely named California DT Aziz Shittu), a top flight running back, another elite offensive lineman (Illinois OT Jordan Diamond) and an elite DB.
The updated 2012 Recruiting Board is after the jump....

Aziz Shittu
Would love if they took a second DT by the name of Aziz Shittu. In fact, I have a dream… And in that dream, Aziz Shittu is starting for Michigan, and after every tackle he makes, the stadium announcer does his obligatory “Tackle made by Aziz Shittu”. And then I hear the entire student body shouting with one voice: “BLESS YOU!!!!!” Oh the hilarious possibilities!!!
Yes that
and all the tackles. ys plz.

Pipkins
is a BEAST. I have a feeling he will be much higher ranked by signing day…based on his dominant camp performances. So…my predictions for the rest of the class: Dunn, Diamond, Wright, and Payton. Not bad Coach Hoke, not bad.
