After Trevor Mbakwe was lost to a season-ending injury early on in the season, the Gophers struggled through Big Ten play. Still, the emergence of Andre Hollins and a surprising run to the finals of the NIT provided a positive finish to the season, and with Mbakwe back, the Gophers should be a dangerous team this year.

Illinois collapsed last year down the stretch -- they closed out the season with 12 losses in 14 games, star player Meyers Leonard struggled, and coach Bruce Weber was fired -- but new coach John Groce is inheriting some talented players and could surprise in the Big Ten this year. It will be tough for Illinois to gain traction in the nation's toughest conference, although there's definitely some potential for a program that may have hit rock bottom a year ago.

The Cornhuskers struggled mightily in their first year in the Big Ten, finishing tied for last in the conference with Penn State. New coach Tim Miles is coming into a program that loses star guard Bo Spencer, as well as several other seniors, and has a lack of proven players. It's going to be a rough first year for Miles, who did create a pretty respectable program at his previous job, Colorado State, and Nebraska seems a few years away from escaping the Big Ten cellar.
