What is wrong with this blog?

Why cant one of the best colleges in the country's blog stay up to date? I can understand certain lulls but we are in the middle of a basketball season and there is barely an update. This has turned into a ghost town once football ended and, to be honest, before that this site is updated once every two weeks. I would blame the lack of traffic to the site but if there was more content there would be more traffic.

You can boot me off the blog or not. It wouldn't matter. Its not like I would be missing out on any new content. Please keep up or pass to someone who will.

Any opinions expressed in Fanposts or Fanshots are not the opinions of Maize n Brew. Peruse at your own risk.

I, too, have noticed this problem.

I thought about a series of fanposts to get other people at the very least commenting. Even during football season, this blog is pretty quiet, especially to someone who is constantly on Pride of Detroit.

Some big changes will be coming in the middle of the week. We're getting everything sorted out right now.

Thanks for sticking it out; there will be a lot of content soon.

Glad to hear this!

Been missing the way things used to be—you know, lots of posts. :)

Didn't they say this a month ago?

Then all we got were basketball posts. Woo hoo.

Oh, and thanks for football’s coverage of Signing Day… oh, wait.

Concur

That “Efficiency” story has been in the lead for 2 weeks, and I still haven’t read it.

I was hoping for some National Signing Day coverage, but alas…

What's wrong with this blog is

that the people running it suck. They (like mgoblog’s Brian) hate Brady Hoke with every fiber of their being, and now they can’t stand the fact that they were so wrong about him. So they stick their heads in the ground.

And it’s not a matter of Life thing, so don’t buy that crap if they give you that excuse. The bloggers on here are on other blogs and stay active. They just stopped here because they hate Brady Hoke. It’s really that simple.

Not very becoming of self-proclaimed Michigan “fans,” but what can you do. If that sounds disappointed, it’s because it is. This blog is a disappointment on every level.

Pretty sure I'm not wrong.

These guys didn’t like Brady Hoke when he was hired, thought we’d be in for a horrible season, and then when he started winning, instead of saying “oh wow we were really wrong” they all went away. The evidence is compelling. But hey, let them defend themselves.

I’d love to hear what they have to say about Hoke now and how they explain themselves for bailing on the blog after pretty much saying that Hoke was the worst possible hire.

by Meager Reader on Feb 16, 2012 12:18 AM CST up reply actions

Who says they're actually "back"?

They said the same thing a month ago and then there was nothing. Also MnB Dave has been gone since Hoke started winning. There was great coverage of Ohio State and Signing Day, btw.

Did you even read this site during the season?

I know you like to cite my initial reaction to Hoke’s hiring as evidence that I was against him from the moment he was hired, but have you read the site since then. The next day I published a retraction of my discontent and threw my support behind him fully. I looked at the hire, objectively and came out in support of it. Then I called out sites that were bashing Hoke’s hire as being wrong headed and admitted that I was wrong to initially question the hire. So, I don’t know where you get this idea that we wanted him to fail. I spent the better part of the first quarter of the season engaging in a near holy war with MGo over this subject. Read the site before you bash it.

Second, so what if there were posters here who weren’t as supportive as you claim to be? Can’t people have differing opinions? Isn’t that the point of this blog? There were plenty of times we disagreed, but we did so respectfully and with an open mind. That’s how we roll here, even if our real life obligations keep us away from the site from time to time.

Get your facts right. And if you don’t like the site, I’m sure there are other places you can go.

I for one...

…am glad to see all of you back in some form or fashion. I don’t enjoy the inane bickering that erupted in some of the posts but I really am glad to see people back and active. Hopefully the hoops team can get a sweet-16 run or better and add to the enjoyment of the site. Go Blue!!

You raise a good point

and it’s probably the emotion of seeing you guys completely abandoning Michigan football mid-way through the season that had me seething with rage. I apologize if at any point in this I have gone too far.

That said, my problem with you is this: regardless of how you may or may not have felt about Hoke, he was a legitimate candidate for the Michigan job from the beginning, even when Harbaugh’s and Miles’s names were being tossed around. And that means that there was always going to be a chance that he would become Michigan’s football coach. As someone who runs a blog that is read and followed by thousands of Michigan’s fans, it behooved you to use your influence to get them behind Hoke before he was hired (i.e. when he was still a candidate), or at the very least see the positives of him being hired. Instead, you used the opportunity to trash him, compare Michigan to pre-Saban Alabama or post-Holtz Notre Dame, and say that hiring a Michigan Man was and always will be the wrong choice. This decision on your part was neither prudent nor pragmatic, and frankly it made you look like a complete idiot. (History has shown time and time again that Michigan is a unique institution, it is neither Alabama nor Notre Dame, and just because someone has a great resume doesn’t mean they’ll succeed here.) Simply put, as someone who claims to love Michigan and who runs a very popular Michigan blog read by fans of all ages, you should have known better.

I will say that I felt better after reading your “retraction” (which I read at the time it was published), but these types of posts seemed… reluctant—as though you did not really believe what you were writing. (This is solely my impression and nothing else.) I will also say this: you did not make an ass out of yourself the way mgoblog’s Brian did. No one has disrespected Hoke more than he has. On that we agree.

Dude, wrong Dave...

…I’m not MnB Dave but I think he got it right in the post above…however, you clearly don’t want to read it, understand it, or let it go. Give it a rest already….

I think everyone hated Brady Hoke

the day He was hired. I dont believe anyone couldve said they wanted Him over les miles before He was hired. I wanted to break Dave Brandon’s face the day i heard he passed on les and hired Hoke. But i jumped on board the Hoke bandwagon while watching His introductory press-conf. and posted this fanpost soon after. I have visited this site regularly since and have seen not one anti-Hoke comment from any of the authors. I may have seen one or two that said they were a little worried about the first season of transition due to lack of depth, but MnBDave has been NOTHING but Pro-Hoke and Pro-Brandon, so for you to say they hate Hoke with every fiber of their being is WAAAY off base. As a matter of fact, the reason i chose this blog over the more popular mgo was Dave’s willingness to give Hoke a chance to suceed instead of painting Him as a bumbling idiot destined for failure and portraying Brandon as a Scrooge McDuck like brian.

Disagree...

…I will admit I wanted Harbaugh first and foremost (and who didn’t) but I DID NOT want Les Miles and preferred the Hoke hiring at that point. Now, I NEVER dreamed he would turn out this great as I didn’t know enough about him but no, I did NOT want the hatter….and now we won’t ever have ti worry about it…197 days to Bama….GO BLUE!!

by David Koenig on Feb 16, 2012 5:04 PM CST up reply actions

I agree...

If you click that link and read that post you will see Harbaugh was the man i wanted coaching Michigan. But, after watching his entire tenure at stanford, i knew he would be going pro. That left 2 options, Les and Hoke. I describe how my feelings for les turned sour in 2008 after he had turned down the Michigan job to stay at lsu (at least i thought he turned it down. Thanks, John Bacon). But it was either les or this guy i had never heard of so i began trying to talk myself into liking him again. But once i saw Hoke’s pressconference i was sooo glad Brandon offered him the position. Les can keep his crookedness and oversigning B.S. down in the SEC. And even if we had gotten Harbaugh we would be worrying about him going pro every year and other schools using that agianst us in recruiting. I dont think Brady will ever leave AA unless he is strapped to a bulldozer and forced out. We have the perfect man leading Michigan. I dont think his character, integrity, and love for Michigan can be matched by anyone, including Harbaugh, and damn sure not by les. I also have recently learned of the RUMORS involving the les/Moeller/Carr situation and dislike him more than ever…GAAAWWWD I hope we roll the tide…GO BLUE!

Took the words...

Lack of content...

I too noticed the lack of content lately. I noticed it back during football season. I had held off on leaving fanposts praising Hoke & Co. midway through the season because i was scared i would jinx the new regime, so i sat quietly with my fingers crossed, and thought maybe the authors were doing the same. So i didnt worry too much about the lack of posts figuring we’d all have plenty of time in the off season to discuss the tremendous effort put forth by Team 132. But i noticed discussion hasnt picked back up yet quite like i thought it would, but i’m not going to bash the authors. Sometimes it takes an engine a while to get back to running like its supposed to after it has been sitting idle for so long. I even remember a post months back that said content would be low and if anyone would like to help out they could email MnBDave; so if you are that avid of a reader and that disappointed, you couldve done something to help out. I like beef99’s idea about different series of fanposts. EDSBS readers do a great job of providing funny, insightful thoughts and interaction on their fanpost section and I would love to see more of that here. I do hope things pick back up. Now that the season is over, the next round of recruiting has begun, and Spring practice is comig into sight i am going to need some help getting my off-season fix…and as i have stated many times before i am from S Carolina so there arent a lot of places i can go to get it. Thankfully i discovered MGoVideo not too long ago, so i dont have to depend on BTN to watch a game if i get the itch.

by Ouck Fhio on Feb 16, 2012 4:58 PM CST reply actions

Things absolutely will pick back up.

There are quite a few of us committed to getting this site producing three to four posts a day at minimum, and while there may be some bumps along the road I am very excited for the direction of the site. We have a great group of writers here and a great community reading.

That being said, I would LOVE to see the readers get more involved in fan posts and fan shots. Not in a “do our work for us” sort of way (because, like I said, this place is back from a hiatus), but in a “everybody has something interesting to bring to the table” kind of way. If you write a kick ass fan post I will read it and I will bump it to the front page. My goal is to get everyone here involved — be it commenting or writing.
