Michigan vs. Purdue GameThread
Purdue Boilermakers at Michigan Wolverines, Feb 25, 2012 5:00 PM CST
Your Michigan Wolverines will play their final game in the cozy confines of Crisler Arena tonight against the Purdue Boilermakers. If Michigan wins tonight the Wolverines will stay one Michigan State loss away from a tie for the Big Ten regular season title as well as locking up an undefeated home record for the 2011-12 season (and a perfect home record for both the football and basketball team this year, which, after the last few years feels like winning the lotto).
Not only that, but this marks the last time that Michigan seniors Zack Novak and Stu Douglass will play basketball in Crisler Arena for the Wolverines. Nary a dry eye will be present, I can assure you.
As for Purdue, the Boilermakers are having a tough year this year after a solid non-conference season led into a 3-6 stretch to open the Big Ten in January through early February. Purdue now sits with a conference record of 8-7, and with the strength of the Big Ten another win should help solidify Purdue's tourney resume.
Purdue is led by senior Robbie Hummel who tops the team in both points per game (16.5) and rebounds per game (6.9). Point guard Lewis Jackson is second on the team in points per game (10.3) and first in assists with 4.2 per game.

A tough first half to say the least…Michigan has looked out of sorts on both ends of the floor and yet finds themselves down 4 at the half. I’ll take it. Purdue is either nailing 3s or getting layups so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a little more zone in the second half here and there just to mix it up (threw some 2-3 at them in Purdue’s final possession there).
Let’s hope THJ can get it going…his facial expression after that first airball from the top of the key was, sadly, definitive of his season as a whole. He’s gotten to the basket a couple times but it’s obvious that Purdue will let him shoot the 3 all day; he passed up a fairly open look to put it on the floor but drove right into a Purdue defender (Byrd, I think?)—who was a good 3 or 4 feet off of him—for the charge.
