Something I overlooked putting in the Happy Hour this morning (it was sitting in my inbox) was the full Athlon preview that has Michigan as the 7th overall team in the country and first in the Big Ten's Legends Division. It is a doozy, so let's look at each individual part.
Overall Report - The guys at Athlon look at the potential turnover issues and the very real possibility that the defense regresses because of turnover on the defensive line...then they hand out the #7 ranking.
To be fair, they -- correctly, I would say -- identify Denard Robinson and Fitzgeral Toussaint as the best one-two backfield punch in the nation.
Michigan's Ten Best Players - I would say there are some issues here. While Denard and Taylor Lewan are one and two, Patrick Omameh makes the top-three, which I would say is generous to the lineman that seemed to struggle the most with the transition to the new offense. Kenny Demens is number six, and while I think he deserves a spot on the list I would give Jake Ryan the nod over him.
The endless debate over Denard Robinson's Heisman chances - Basically: cut down interceptions and win double digit games, then we will talk about getting an invite to New York. Winning the thing is another story.
Whateva, talk to me about this in November.
MVP's and Game Predictions - I really think Athlon nailed this one. The trap game/upset alert are right on (Iowa and Purdue), the unsung heroes are Craig Roh and Jibreel Black (who I believe will be the most important pieces on the defense along with Will Campbell), and the biggest game/revenge game/season defining moment is just as it should be: Ohio State, Michigan State, and Alabama.
Jokes, we've got 'em - Do you like sophomoric dick jokes? What about the pizza delivery/MSU grad joke I was telling in middle school? Athlon's got you covered.
Stick to your day job, guys.
