Selection Sunday: Waiting on Michigan's tournament seeding

USA TODAY Sports

The tournament is just around the corner, and Michigan is waiting around to see where it will end up.

A poor end of the season run (6-6 over the last dozen games) has seen Michigan's NCAA tournament stock drop. Once projected as a one-seed, the Wolverines lost three of four, were upset by a big underdog, Penn State, and then failed to steal a share of the conference title against outright champ Indiana.

Michigan could have helped its seeding with a strong showing in the Big Ten Tournament, but a loss to suddenly-hot Wisconsin in the second round probably sees Michigan slot in as a four-seed. Far from what most were hoping for.

Still, Michigan enters the tournament with what could be the best player in the country in Trey Burke, and a team capable of getting hot at any moment. The question is if Michigan can stay hot long enough to make some noise. Without a concentrated defensive effort -- something the Wolverines haven't put together consistently over the past month and a half -- the offense will have a heavy burden to carry.

Stick around as we will have a couple more updates throughout the day on the way to selection time later this evening.
