Could Michigan land in Auburn Hills?

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

If the Wolverines could land a three seed, the chance at playing close to home to start the tournament goes up.

Nick Baumgardner writes over at MLive that Michigan is still looking at a decent chance of staying local for the first round of the tournament. With Syracuse's loss last night, Michigan got another slight leg up over the Orange for that last three seed and a better grip on the Auburn Hills placement for the first weekend.

Michigan State seems to have assured itself a claim of the Auburn Hills opening round, in the other pod that will place there over the first weekend.

Given Michigan's struggles away from home, one would have to think that being an hour or so drive from home would help Michigan's chances, although the atmosphere won't be as pro-Michigan as Crisler, especially with a significant number of Spartan fans getting tickets to the games as well.

Michigan is 17-1 at home this year, while just 5-5 away, including a huge loss against Michigan State and the upset at the hands of Penn State.
