"I haven't even thought about (leaving)," he told MLive.com after practice Tuesday at the Crisler Center. "I don't have a decision to make -- I'm coming back."
Is he 100 percent sure?
"Yeah," he said with a laugh. "I'm coming back."
Mitch McGary leaves no doubt. He will be back.
Three weeks ago this was pretty much a given. McGary had an up and down Big Ten season where he struggled at times with fouls and inconsistency on defense. But after a tournament run in which he has been arguably Michigan's second best player (on a team with a few future NBA'ers), there was a worry he might bolt for the league.
This is pretty huge news for the Wolverines, as Michigan is already looking at the almost certain departure of Trey Burke and possibly Glenn Robinson III and Tim Hardaway Jr. If all three leave, it will be up to McGary, Stauskas, and the rest of Michigan's returning role players (no one playing any significant minutes is a senior).
Michigan will be adding another impressive freshman class next fall, but replacing four starters would have been problematic.
Now if he can only convince everyone else to come back...
