37 years ago, Michigan was on top of the college football rankings after the first week of the season courtesy of a thrashing of Wisconsin 40-27. They justified that new ranking the following week by putting up 51 on Stanford in a shutout.
Rick Leach was the star but Rob Lytle put up the best single-season rushing performance in program history. At season's end, Michigan had allowed 95 points to be scored against them. And still finished in a tie for the conference title.
