College Football Spectacular: Week Two

Gregory Shamus

The second week preview of college football includes Michigan football, Samantha Ponder, Lebron James, Jadeveon Clowney and Church.

College Football enters week two after a memorable first week of action. Johnny Manziel came back after his "suspension," and by the end of the week, he wasn't even the most popular QB. That honor belongs to Florida State freshman sensation Jameis Winston, who took the world by storm on Labor Day. All of that and we didn't even touch on Michigan's first victory of the season.

The Wolverines looked dominant in uneasy fashion against Central Michigan. The score of 59-9 doesn't tell the story of Devin Gardner's interceptions and poor decision making early on in the game. Brady Hoke said, "Devin needs to know punting the ball on fourth down is not always a bad decision." Gardner finished up his first week with a solid game overall and looked more comfortable as the game went on. It was notable how at ease Gardner appeared as the game progressed.

Week two for the Wolverines brings a game that caused a bit of a stir in the past few days. Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said that he didn't consider Michigan "one of those historic, traditional Notre Dame rivalries." Take about bulletin board material. On Tuesday, Kelly made it a point to change the subject by saying that the series against Michigan was, "a great and historic rivalry." Talk about a change of heart.

The last scheduled game between Notre Dame and Michigan will take place under the lights on Saturday night. 'Under the Lights 2' or UTL2 will be the center stage of the college football world. As if the game wasn't big enough, ESPN's 'College Gameday' will be on the Ann Arbor campus Saturday morning. There is even a special guest that should appear on Gameday when it comes time to make the weekly selections. We can imagine that you'll be seeing some signs in the background that are similar to what happened in Ann Arbor last weekend.

Chris Fowler, Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit, Samantha Ponder and Lee Corso will alive and present. Gameday was on the Clemson campus last Saturday in what turned out to be a superb Saturday night game between the Georgia Bulldogs and Clemson Tigers. The stage is going to be set for the Wolverine faithful to show up and some notable Wolverine alums are making it clear that the environment will be electric in Ann Arbor.

Ponder was all over the University of Michigan campus this week, meeting with a lot of the Michigan Football staff and players.

Team #134 for Michigan will have to try to force Notre Dame into making some mistakes early on in the game. If the Wolverines can get Notre Dame QB Tommy Rees out of sorts early on, the game could tilt to Michigan's favor. Gardner will have to play smarter for Michigan and he has spoken this week about taking care of the ball. The team, the team, the team will have to play as one to cause havoc for The Fighting Irish.

MUST-SEE-TV WEEK TWO: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7TH

MIAMI @ #12 FLORIDA 12:00 PM EST ESPN

The Gators looked to show some improvement on the offensive end in the first game of the 2013 season. Sadly for Florida fans, it appears as though that there are still struggles on the offense. QB Jeff Driskel will have to continue to improve because the defense can only win the Gators so many games. Head coach Will Muschamp suspended some players for the first game of the season and future first-round talent, CB Loucheiz Purifoy, will be back in action. The rivalry game should be the feature game to kick off a solid Saturday of action and win or lose, Muschamp is always must-see action on the sidelines.

SAN DIEGO STATE @ #3 OHIO STATE 3:30PM EST ABC

The Buckeyes won against an inferior opponent in week one. Week two shouldn't be much different, even though San Diego State will be the toughest non-conference opponent that Ohio State will likely face this season. Interestingly enough, Ohio State made it a point to make Lebron James' presence felt in their locker room. It just feels right that the Buckeyes and Lebron James would be in cohesion. Judge for yourself.

#6 SOUTH CAROLINA @ #11 GEORGIA 4:30 PM EST ESPN

Georgia suffered a tough loss in week one, losing on the road at the (now) #4 Clemson Tigers. QB Aaron Murray will look to get his team back on track with a formidable opponent in South Carolina. Carolina has future #1 NFL Draft pick Jadeveon Clowney and his conditioning was the talk of the college football world after their first game. Clowney appeared fatigued in action, but it's important to remember that it was the first game of the season and it was incredibly hot and humid. This game could end up being the best game of the day. It's not to be missed.

For all the talk about how obsessed SEC fans are, take a look at this sign at a church in the Georgia.

SYRACUSE @ #19 NORTHWESTERN 6:00 PM EST BIG TEN NETWORK

The best coach that doesn't get love on a national scale is Northwestern's Pat Fitzgerald. All he did last season was lead his team to double digit wins; at Northwestern, 10 wins is not an easy task. The Wildcats went on the road last week and won at California. This week, the Wildcats will continue their solid non-conference schedule by taking on the Syracuse Orange. Syracuse suffered a tough loss last week against Penn State and this week they will look to break even against Big Ten opponents. This should be a solid game that works as an appetizer for the main event a couple of hours later.

As always, keep an eye out for the popular graduate of Northwestern, Michael Wilbon.
