Michigan 77 - Wisconsin 70: Time To Party

Mike McGinnis

Michigan wins its first game in the Kohl Center since 1999 and knocks off the #3 ranked Badgers.

Fouad talked about it earlier in the week, Michigan has struggled in Madison for years.  Last year's game was a heartbreaker and this year's matchup seemed to favor Wisconsin.

But Indiana showed that Wisconsin isn't invincible earlier in the week, and Michigan used a huge 43-point first half to set up a nice win.

The big performances came from Michigan's three wing players.  Nik Stauskas hit perhaps the biggest shot of the night late to push Michigan's lead to 4 points, but he was deadly all night long both shooting and creating for his teammates.  He finished the game with 22 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two blocks while hitting 6 of 6 from the line in the final minute to help ice the game.

Glenn Robinson III played an efficient game hitting a few nice pull up jumpers and scoring 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting.  Even bigger was Caris LeVert's performance, as the lithe sophomore poured in 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals (although he also had four turnovers).  LeVert played a big game and Michigan needed every bit of his contributions.

The Jon Horford/Jordan Morgan combo was once again effective in their role, as both players were a perfect 3 of 3 from the floor while combining for 17 rebounds.  This has quietly been a big reason for Michigan's recent success, and a big part of Frank Kaminsky's so-so night (14 points on 12 shots and four rebounds) was because of these two.

This was a huge win for Michigan which needs the positive momentum as Iowa comes to town on Wednesday.  Two more games remain in Michigan's first rough stretch, and the Wolverines have already outperformed expectations.

It was quite a win for the Wolverines, and while Michigan almost fell apart late, it kept its composure and finished strong on the road.
