Closing the 2014 Class

I posted this in the comments of the Miles Sanders article, but felt that it was necessary to have a thread dedicated to the 2014 class. Michigan, with 16 committments (7 of which are already enrolled), looks to have a relatively uneventful Signing Day on Wednesday, February 5. The only likely target on the board for the Wolverines is strong-side defensive end Malik McDowell (Southfield/MI), who will announce at the HYPE Athletics Center one week from today. Here is a quick look at the outlook of the rest of the '14 class:

Most of the regional running backs that I've contacted (Richard Wilson, Mikale Wilbon and Chris James) are not hearing from Michigan at this point in time and don't expect to. One name who I believed could be in the mix is Ashton Jackson (Trotwood-Madison/OH). T-M has produced quite few Wolverines in the past and is very high on the list of 2016 quarterback Messiah deWeaver. However, according to deWeaver, it looks like Jackson is forgoing the recruiting process altogether and will join the Army.

Another Signing Day possibility that I have considered is 2014 SDE Dewayne Hendrix (O'Fallon/IL). After offering Johnny Williams in late-November, the Wolverines pursued adding another prospect at the defensive end position (and are still very much in it for Malik McDowell). Michigan head coach Brady Hoke and wide receiver coach Jeff Hecklinski stopped by to check in on O'Fallon sophomore running back Kentrail Moran and had the opportunity to see Hendrix. However, Hendrix is solid in his commitment to Tennessee and isn't interested in Michigan according to Moran. If Michigan does look to add another DE not named McDowell, that target hasn't emerged yet.
