The Big Ten will announce its own punishment for Penn State for massive failings during the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal at the school. University of Iowa president Sally Mason, the chair of the Big Ten's Council of Presidents/Chancellors, will discuss the penalties along with league commissioner Jim Delany at 11 a.m. ET. Big Ten presidents and chancellors announced their own investigation into the problems at Penn State back in December.

As if this day isn't bad enough for Penn State fans, the Big Ten is set to impose its own penalties on PSUat 11am. Buckle up.

Two sources with knowledge of the Penn State penalties said NCAA president Mark Emmert will announce Monday that he is personally sanctioning Penn State after receiving approval from the association’s Division I Board of directors, which is comprised of 22 college presidents and chancellors. One source told Yahoo! Sports Emmert’s sanctions will include a "multiple-year" bowl ban and "crippling" scholarship losses.

"June 15 is definitely old-school. But now the guys that they're recruiting, they all know that up front. Some of them are perturbed. But for every guy who acts that way, there's another one who likes knowing. They've made it part of their pitch. I think it's very respectable how they're doing it."

Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

"The two things I always notice about defenses is if they're rallying to the ball - because then everyone is on the same page - and if they're hitting you hard. They'll really hit you with everything they've got if they're confident their teammates will have their back if they miss. I didn't see Michigan doing either of those things last year.

Rivals' Mike Spath did something pretty unique recently. He sat down with three of Michigan's 2010 Big Ten opponent and got their unfiltered opinions on the Michigan Defense in 2010. As you can see from the quote above, it ain't pretty. However, there are notes on Mike Martin and Kenny Demens you'll probably find interesting. Sadly, this will more than likely confirm everything you feared you knew about last year's defense.

"If Woody Hayes was around now," Howard says, "I'm thinking he would grab Jim Tressel by the collar and punch him in the throat."

Just another fine gem of a quote from Michigan's very own Desmond Howard. Not just a touchdown machine, he's a quote machine for anyone with a microphone. Howard sat down with Big Red Today and gave an Interview with an icon: Desmond Howard - Omaha.com. Folks. This is a must read.

The headline in the Cleveland Plain Dealer read "Black Eye Nation," accompanied by a photo of Tressel, who resigned after university officials encouraged him to quit amid the turmoil for failing to report NCAA violations. "I'm framing that," Aaron Shea said, animatedly. "We have no red in this house, but I'm framing it, and I'm putting it in the bathroom … above the toilet."

Buckeyes scandals cause little stir among ex-Wolverines From The Detroit News. There are some great quotes in here, but this one is my favorite.

You have 85 players to go with 8 position coaches, 10 S&C coaches, 5 full time academic support personnel, 5 full time athletic trainers, 15 student assistant trainers, 5 guys on the film staff, 10 equipment managers, a recruiting coordinator, 5 guys in your compliance office devoted to football. You can do the math on player to support personnel ratios, but it’s pretty obvious that if the people in a NCAA football program are paying one lick of attention and actually give a rip about playing by the rules, it is IMPOSSIBLE to have a car (worth driving) that people in the program don’t know about. This "open secret" at Ohio State with cars ranging from free to ultimate sweetheart deals is unforgiveable. - Barking Carnival's OUTSTANDING Piece on NCAA Compliance at Texas
