Michigan v. Duke Open Thread: Round Three of the 2011 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament

The Team. The Team. The Team. (Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)

The Team
The Team
The Team

You've seen this slogan on the back of Michigan's warm-ups since the Big Ten Tournament and it's carried the Wolverines through to today. When Michigan beat Tennessee on Friday it was a total team effort. They out rebounded a much taller team. They spread their scoring around with five players scoring in double figures and dishing out 20 assists. The Team. The Team. The Team.

Today they go up against one of the best teams in the country in the Duke Blue Devils, the number one seed in the Wolverines bracket. They're loaded top to bottom with McDonald's All Americans. They're tall. They can shoot from the outside and rebound the ball like maniacs. They're favored.

But this is nothing new to this Michigan team. They've run up against teams that are taller than them, more athletic, more yadda yadda yadda. It doesn't matter. Michigan's here. They're still playing. They shoot the ball well, they distribute the ball as well as any team in the country, and they don't care who you are. They're here to beat you. They're here to go to the Sweet 16. And you're in their way.

Open thread below.

2011 NCAA Tournament Second Round: Michigan Wolverines v. Tennessee Volunteers Open Thread

Michigan's first game of the 2011 NCAA Men's Baskebtall Tournament tips off today at 12:40 EST/11:40CST. Dylan over at UMHoops.com has your indepth preview of the game, and our preview is up and ready too. If you're looking for a little audio on the game, we talked with Vols blog Rocky Top Talk a couple of days ago, so you're good there too.

So far it's been an insane tournament. Last second tip-ins. Buzzer beaters. Jump shot treys to sink heavy favorites. Heavy favorites eeking out wins. It's been wonderful. But now it's time for the main event. Michigan tips off against Tennessee. Join us in the open thread below!

2011 Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament Semi-Finals: Michigan v. Ohio State Game Thread

Yesterday was a great day for Michigan. They won a critical bubble game against a bubble team in Illinois. They significantly improved their NCAA Tournament resume even with other bubble teams pulling off upsets. How much? They jumped 6 spots in RPI, and now sit comfortably at 50th. Michigan's Strength of Schedule remains 17th, but after playing Ohio State today, that will likely jump as well.

There are plenty of previews for your consumption. CBS has a good one. UMHoop's preview is here. The new Big Ten Powerhouse has one as well. Vegas has us +9.5, so, as I like to look at it, the pressure's on that School Down South. The key match-up will obviously be Zack Novak/Evan Smotrycz/Jordan Morgan et al matching up against Jared Sullinger and Dallas Lauderdale down low. But don't forget about guarding their other super freshman, Aaron Craft. Michigan's guards are going to have to be on high alert to keep the speedy freshman under control.

We need a good start and a strong game all around to win this one. We'll be here all afternoon. So join us for the fun. Comments in the section below!

It's Down to This: MSU vs. UM Open Thread

Two teams will enter Crisler Arena this afternoon as two sides of the same coin.  The goal is the same for both; a berth in the NCAA tournament.  The Wolverines come in having wildly exceeded expectations.  The Big Ten's youngest team were picked last in the Big Ten in preseason polling, yet find themselves on the verge of making the expanded field of 68 for only the second time since 1998.  The roster is filled with undersized and outmanned players, but have legitimate stars in Darius Morris and Big Ten Freshman of the Year (yes, I said it) Tim Hardaway Jr

Michigan State enters having had a difficult road so far.  Tom Izzo's squad was the preseason #2 team in the country, but have struggled in nearly contest.  Compounding their issues was the dismissal of Junior guard Korie Lucious.  Michigan has already topped Michigan State earlier this year at the Breslin Center, and will look for the season sweep today.

The goal is the same: an NCAA Tournament Berth.  The narratives are wildly different.  It's Michigan State vs. Michigan at Crisler Arena, and this is your open thread.  Game is on CBS, or streaming here.

Go Blue.  Beat Sparty.  Please.
