Earlier Wednesday, Michigan extended a scholarship offer to 2016 defensive back JJ Givens (Mechanicsville, Virginia), who spoke to Maize n Brew shortly afterwards and gave his reaction to the day's news.

"It kind of came as a surprise because I haven’t been in that much contact with Michigan," Givens said. "I feel like it’s a good offer for me."
Givens said he has spoken to Michigan coaches Chris Partridge and DJ Durkin, who extended the offer to him this morning.
Even though he is from Virginia, he does a have a bit of a connection to the program.
“I know Wilton Speight because he played at Collegiate HS and Derrick Green from Hermitage," he said. "Me and him used to work out together."
While it still is a bit early in the process, Givens does have a handful of schools that have made an impression on him so far.
“At this moment the schools that are standing out are Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and Notre Dame, along with Michigan," he said.
Givens is aware of the change that is going on at Michigan and he thinks that he could fit in with what the new staff is trying to sell.
"I definitely feel like I could be a huge asset to them because they like long, lanky defensive backs and I feel like I could fit in," he said. "I really like the new staff. I feel like they really want to change around the program and they want to work.”
Givens is a three-star prospect and the 40th ranked safety in the 2016 class, per the 247 Composite.
