When it comes to impressive catches I witnessed as a young man, Jason Avant's one-hander against Northwestern was pretty high up there. I mean. I mean...
That is insane. That much concentration and body control. It barely seems possible.
Of course, Avant didn't stop there. He has been making impressive catches seem downright pedestrian for years. It is no wonder then that he snagged this one against Tampa Bay today. (click for gif-ification)
More than just being an excuse to post a sweet catch, think about some of the Michigan receivers from the aughts that made it to the NFL. Sure, there were a couple busts by sure-things (I'm looking at you Braylon and David), but Jason Avant has carved out a nice NFL career and Steve Breaston spent plenty of time in the league. Mario Manningham also has a pretty impressive NFL catch to hang his hat on. That list doesn't even include guys like Marquise Walker (with quite the catch of his own) or Adrian Arrington.
Looking back on Michigan's run of receiver production over much of last decade, it is pretty hard to overstate how good that group of guys was, and how much fun they were to watch. Avant's catch today was just another testament to that.
