Maui, HI (Sports Network) - Tom Pritchard posted 19 points and nine rebounds to help the Indiana Hoosiers squeak by the Chaminade Silverswords, 81-79, in the final round of the Maui Invitational.
Devan Dumes added 14 points for Indiana (3-2), which got 13 points from Verdell Jones III. Malik Story netted 12 points off the bench for the Hoosiers, while Daniel Moore rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
Joel Smith finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds in the narrow defeat for Chaminade (0-3), which is the tournament's host team. Shane Hanson pitched in 14 points, and both Mohamed Tangara and Darrell Birton scored 13 points. Noah Gottlieb managed 11 points and six assists for the Silverswords.
Indiana shot a blistering 70.4 percent from the floor in the first half, including 6-of-10 from three-point range, and led 51-42 at intermission.
Indiana held a 66-51 advantage with 13:30 remaining in the contest, and while the Hoosiers never lost the lead, they did watch nervously as a three-point attempt by Gottlieb missed its mark with one second remaining. If that shot was good, the Hoosiers would have lost all three games at the Maui Invitational.
A 36-20 edge in points in the paint was key to the Indiana victory.
