Last week's ballot

Dropped Out: Georgia (#17), North Carolina (#22), Oregon (#23), Michigan State (#25).

Others Receiving Votes: UCLA, Florida State, Missouri, Cincinnati

Some reshuffling here as I lean a little bit more on the resume side of things at the top.

Southern Cal?

Yes, USC has several problems that might eventually prevent them from reaching the title game, but that was a damn impressive road win over a fellow top-5 team (in my poll, at least).  They vault Florida and Texas if only because we now know that USC can compete with the big boys.  We'll know more when Florida and Texas start playing real teams.

Yeah, but Alabama played a top-25 team, right?

Yes, but 'bama has a question mark in their offensive backfield that both Florida and Texas don't have.

Penn State?

I think they've got playmakers where they need them.  The offensive line is only going to get better.  I do think they're a little high here.  A compelling case for somebody else at #5 would be taken into account.

Why is Ohio State only 3 spots down?

This blog rewards tough scheduling.  An early loss to a top-5 team isn't a death sentence.

Georgia Tech is a top ten team?

Hey - they might have barely won, but the scoreboard still stands, and they played a tough Clemson team.  With help from OK state's loss, they get into the top-10.

What's with the mid-major conglomeration in the middle there?

Take nothing away from BSU's victory of Oregon and BYU's victory over Oklahoma, but those came against an Oregon team that is in complete disarray and a Bradford-less Oklahoma.  I will probably switch out Utah and BYU in the final poll.  Even TCU's victory of Virginia was against an extremely weak BCS team.

Michigan?  Really?  Notre Dame?  Still?

I really do think after two impressive games that Michigan deserves to be ranked.  I might have them a little bit high, but this is a Michigan blog, and them's the breaks.  That was the best Notre Dame team I've seen in quite some time, and given their patsy schedule from here on out, I think it's fair that they stay in the top-25, just one step below Michigan.

As always, comments and corrections are MUCH appreciated.  The final ballot is due tomorrow.
