Stuff You Need to Read Right Now
Lacrosse: CCLA Champions - Congrats to the Lax team. Next stop, the MCLA national championship tourney.
Washington Huskies president Mark A. Emmert named NCAA's new president - University of Washington president Mark A. Emmert became the NCAA's new chief executive on Tuesday, ending the search that began in November.
UConn Football: Edsall discusses draft picks, Big East's status - A limited transcript of Edsall's remarks. He's either insane or a genius. There's something about the guy that I admire quite a bit. He's one of the few college football coaches who says "to hell with it" and says what's on his mind. On top of that, he genuinely seems to care about the kids he coaches. So he's cool in my book. But calling out a football program that's been in existence longer that UConn's been a school. Man. That takes stones. Or insanity.
Headlinin': Notre Dame wakes up the Freekbass singing her name - I know we covered this last Firday, but you must explore this is EPIC FAIL once more.
Now learn where it CAME FROM!
Loaded for a Run, Statistically Speaking - Phil Steele and 11W are high on the Buckeyes in 2010. For good reason. This is getting annoying.
Michigan Football
Michigan's make-or-break game this fall: Oct. 9 vs. Michigan State - Chengelis says it simply, if there's one "must win" on the calendar it's Michigan State.
Chicago Bears: Rookie minicamp gives several players fresh chance - Healed from injury (he tore a rotator cuff against Purdue!) undrafted running back Brandon Minor gains notice of coach Lovie Smith. Go get 'em Brandon.
Post Spring Ball 2010 BCS and Big Ten Bowl Projections - Just like it sounds, TRE is taking their best shot at predicting the future baed on limited and flimsy evidence. Surprise No. 1, Nebraska in the MNC. Surprise No. 2, Michigan finishes 8-4 and ends up in the Outback Bowl. I'll take No. 2, but I'm not buying No. 1. Schedule or not, Nebraska loses the best player in the country and that will take them a couple fo games to recover from.
Big Ten Expansion
"Big Ten Buzz: The Week that Was" - Nice Big Ten Expansion wrap up from Dave Matter at the Columbia Daily Tribune. Point I did not acknowledge before: The Big Ten gets 70 cents a month per subscriber within the conference’s footprint. So, 70 cents x 12 months x 2.2 million homes = $18,480,000. That’s how much the conference would make per year from the Big Ten Network alone if Missouri were to join the league. Whether that, along with the school’s academic credentials, is enough to merit an invite is the question that will linger until the holidays, but I believe Missouri would be more than happy to join the club if asked. It would be foolish to refuse the offer.
Here are the favorites to join expanding Big Ten - Henning states the obvious. The list isn't bad, it's just the idea that Missouri is a "prime" target and that the Big Ten's extra $22 Million would be enough to entice them to join the conference. Missouri is a choice of last resort, not the one you list first.
Coaches want Notre Dame ultimatum? - According to Connecticut coach Randy Edsall, the Big East football coaches have been asking the conference to deliver an ultimatum to Notre Dame to come into the conference for football or get out entirely for the last two years. He added that, if as speculated, two teams leave for the Big Ten, 'the Big East is all done.'"
Big East to Big Ten: 'Take our common-law Irish wife, please!' - The Big East makes a play to rid itself of the Irish, or commit sepuku. One or the other.
Tom Dienhart says 16 teams and four Divisions - - I don't know where Tom is getting this, but the more I think of it, the less it makes sense. He says that the Big Ten goes to 16 teams, adding Mizzou, Nebraska, Pitt, Cuse, and Rutgers. Then splits into the following four divisions. The Big Ten divisions: Syra, Pitt, Rut., Penn St.--Mich., Wisc., Mich. St., Mnn.--Ohio St., Pur., IU, Ill./North.--MU, Iowa, Neb., Ill./NU. This is ludicrious. The Big East implodes and Notre Dame isn't added? We destory the Big XII and get Mizzou? What the hell!?
Headlinin': SEC keeps expansion options open (for Texas?) - Let's face it, Texas is the biggest fish in everyone's expansion pond. I can't say I'm surprised that the SEC is talking to them as well.
College Football
Jake Locker's home finale at Washington Huskies vs. UCLA Bruins moved to prime time - The final game of quarterback Jake Locker's career at Washington is being given a prime-time showcase.
Arkansas defensive backs David Gordon, Hunter Miller arrested on drug possession charges - They see me rollin.... they hatin.... patrollin... they tryin to catch me ridin dirty. Oh wait. They did.
SEC coaches in no hurry to expand - Southeastern Conference coaches aren't in any rush to expand, but they're dead serious about being ready just in case.
Michigan Basketball
Quick Thoughts on Bacari Alexander - UM Hoops weighs in on Bacari Alexander's hiring at Michigan.
