Recruiting Update: September 5, 2011

ADDED TO THE BOARD

Wayne (NJ) Wayne Hills QB Kevin Olsen, a 2013 prospect, has been offered. It's unclear whether Olsen received his offer prior to the commitment of 2013 QB Shane Morris, but he shows an offer nonetheless. Olsen has offers from schools up and down the Atlantic coast, plus Iowa and Michigan. He will likely have offers from all over the country before everything is said and done. There doesn't appear to be a clear leader at the moment.

OFF THE BOARD

New York DT Jarron Jones committed to Notre Dame. The 6'7", 308 lb. mammoth originally committed to Penn State back in April. He rethought his decision and decommitted. He gave another glance at Penn State and considered Virginia Tech, too, but eventually decided on the Fighting Irish. That gives Notre Dame two well regarded prospects on the interior, Jones and Indiana's Sheldon Day.

WESTERN MICHIGAN VISITORS

Several 2012 and 2013 prospects were in attendance for the rainstorm against Western Michigan.  The big-time uncommitted prospects will be in town next weekend for the night game against Notre Dame, but in the meantime, here's a look at some of the attendees:

Ben Braden (2012): Offensive tackle commit from Rockford (MI) Rockford (Touch the Banner profile)

Cameron Dillard (2013): Offensive guard from Canton (MI) Canton. Dillard is a 6'3", 280 lb. guard prospect who already sports an offer from Eastern Michigan. Canton runs a "Dead T" offense in which Dillard spends the vast majority of his time run blocking, so it's difficult to gauge his pass blocking abilities. He does have good feet and he plays low. Offers from BCS conferences are sure to be on their way.

Berkley Edwards (2013): Running back from Chelsea (MI) Chelsea. Edwards is the son of former Michigan running back Stan Edwards and brother of former Michigan wide receiver Braylon Edwards. Berkley is 5'8", 176 lbs. and seems a little small to be in Brady Hoke's wheelhouse. He boasts a 4.52 time in the forty yard dash and a 10.92 in the 100 meters, so he has pretty good speed.

Devin Funchess (2012): Tight end commit from Farmington Hills (MI) Harrison (TTB)

Allen Gant (2012): Safety commit from Sylvania (OH) Southview (TTB)

Matt Godin (2012): Defensive end commit from Novi (MI) Catholic Central (TTB)

Luke MacLean (2013): Defensive end from Grand Blanc (MI) Grand Blanc. MacLean is listed as an inside linebacker prospect in some places, but he's already 6'3", 233 lbs. and presumably still growing. He also looks a little too stiff to be a linebacker. I would be surprised if he doesn't move down to the defensive line in college. He already has an offer from Buffalo.

Matt Miller (2013): Defensive end from Toledo (OH) St. John's. The brother of Michigan center Jack Miller is a 6'5", 250 lb. prospect. He already has an offer from Toledo and has been garnering interest from Big Ten schools as well.

Shane Morris (2013): Quarterback commit from Warren (MI) De La Salle (TTB)

Danny O'Brien (2012): Defensive tackle from Flint (MI) Powers Catholic

Karon Poole (2013): Outside linebacker from Cincinnati (OH) Winton Woods, younger brother of Antonio Poole

Wyatt Shallman (2013): Running back from Novi (MI) Catholic Central. Aside from quarterback Shane Morris, Shallman was the only 2013 prospect in attendance who holds a Michigan offer. Shallman is 6'3", 255 lbs. and reportedly was offered by the Wolverines as a tailback. He's put on at least 20 pounds in the offseason and as he continues to grow, I doubt that offer will remain on the same terms. Shallman could play fullback, defensive end, or even defensive tackle at the next level.  Michigan seems to hold the edge in his recruitment, although Cincinnati is the only other school to offer so far.
