Michigan Wolverines at the NFL Combine: Molk Seeking Bench Press Record

Three recently departed Michigan football players are gracing the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this week, and each guy has a significant chance to boost his stock with a strong showing. For the trio of Mike Martin, Junior Hemingway, and David Molk, the next four days will represent the most important stretch of their respective careers to-date.

You can keep up with the live "action" starting at 9 AM ET tomorrow at NFL.com. For now though, here are your storylines...

Molk Aims for 50

Defensive tackle Stephen Paea set the 225-pound bench press record last year with 49 reps, but David Molk and his freakish neck will attempt to make a legit run at that mark on Saturday. Molk recently did 39 reps after a full workout session that included prior bench work, so it's quite possible that he pulls this off. "I've never done it fresh, but I think after doing that many sets of bench prior to testing it and still getting 39, I'll be right there," Molk said.

Hemingway's 40 Time

Junior has outstanding body control, strong mitts, and a knack for playing like he's about three inches taller than he lists. But to make it at WR in the NFL these days, you need to have enough speed to get in the door as a non-elite prospect. That's why a ton of eyes will be on Hemingway's multiple 40-yard dash attempts on Sunday, as he looks to shed the generalized label of 'possession receiver'. Anything in the 4.55 range or better could be huge for Hemingway's draft stock, and could be enough to convince enough teams that he's worth snatching up in the middle rounds. Then again, a prodding time in the 4.65-4.70 range could adversely affect his chances to hear his name called.

Martin's Opportunity To Shine

It's no secret that Mike Martin is a workout warrior. And in many ways, the NFL Combine is an ideal platform for best of the best athletically, size and position be damned, to show their stuff. Martin is such a ridiculous athlete for a defensive tackle that it almost seems inevitable that we'll end up seeing his name on everyone's 'NFL Combine Winners' lists come next week. Any scout who can walk away from a Mike Martin workout without having to first pick up their jaw off the floor probably needs to see an eye doctor.

As usual, the combine is sectioned off into groups based on position, so the schedule of events is pretty sporadic. To make things easier, here's a UM-friendly schedule of what each guy will be up to:
