Thursday Happy Hour welcomes number 18

Michigan picked up yet another recruit in the 2013 cycle, bringing the count to 18 before the final bell has rung on these kids' junior year of high school. For the record Michigan didn't hit its 18th commit until July 25th in last year's cycle.

Yesterday's commitment was the second receiver in the class, Csont'e York out of Chandler Park Academy in Harper Woods, MI. York is an under the radar recruit thus far (but seriously, its only May so even calling him a sleeper is a bit premature) but flashed a lot of potential at the latest NFTC in Columbus, OH on his way toward appearing on numerous top-X performer lists.

York is another receiver in the mold of previous commit Jaron Dukes: a tall, lean receiver capable of going up and getting the ball while being a solid downfield threat because of hands and size. The knock on both is top end speed and elusiveness. For full breakdowns you can check out mgoblog and Touch the Banner right now. DGDestroys will have his New Blue post read to go soon.

This commit means Michigan is down to roughly six open spots in the class. One more will be a receiver (come on Laquon Treadwell) with at least two spots going to defensive linemen. The rest will be reserved for either top flight prospects or adding depth at areas of need.

U-M offensive coordinator on Alabama game: Preparation 'has already begun'

"I was in last week and I spent five days studying Alabama tape and watching every game they played," Borges said. "I promise you that's foremost in our minds. We're a little diverted because we've got a lot of things to think about still, but that being the first game and as big a game as it is, we're going to spend a significant amount of time on that game.

Unfortunately, given the complexity of Nick Saban's defense and the level of talent he is working with a full summer of film study may still come up short.

Take Two: Fastest track to national title? - While I like the optimism that Michigan can push for a MNC in 2013, I think that overlooks the fact that the offense will be breaking in a new quarterback and the receiver position looks to be even more of a question mark in a year unless one of the underclassmen step up. Add in the fact that Taylor Lewan could bolt for the NFL and I am concerned. That being said, the defense should be close to Beast Mode status by that point.
