It's late in the high school football season, but it's never too late to take a peak at how well Michigan's football commitments are performing on the field. Significant statistics are listed for each skill player, if available.
2014 Commitments
Ian Bunting (Hinsdale Central, IL) - Bunting's team lost, dropping them to 4-4 on the year. He sat with a right shoulder injury.
Juwan Bushell-Beatty (Paramus Catholic, NJ) - JBB and his Paramus squad lost a close game to Don Bosco Prep, moving them to 5-1 on the season.
Freddy Canteen (Eastern Christian Academy, MD) - ECA won to move to 6-1 on the season.
Mason Cole (East Lake HS, FL) - East Lake won in a landslide to march on to a perfect 7-0 record.
Michael Ferns (St. Clairsville, OH) - Ferns' team won, making them 7-1 on the year. Ferns did not play due to a shoulder injury.
Noah Furbush (Kenton, OH) - Furbush had 9 tackles, 1 of which was a TFL, in a win. Kenton is still perfect at 8-0.
Drake Harris (Grand Rapids Christian, MI) - GRC lost a thriller, moving them to 4-4 on the year. I don't believe Harris played at all, still nursing the same hamstring injury from the preseason.
Lawrence Marshall (Southfield, MI) - Southfield won, making them 7-1. Their only loss of the season came at the hands of Detroit Cass Tech, which boasts just enough talent to get past two future collegiate stars in Marshall and McDowell, who play side-to-side on Southfield's defensive line.
Bryan Mone (Highland High School, UT) - Mone's team won, moving to 6-3 on the season.
Jabrill Peppers (Paramus Catholic, NJ) - Peppers had a 68-yard TD reception, around 90 yards rushing and multiple tackles in a loss to his former team, Don Bosco Prep. Paraumus Catholic is now 5-1.
Wilson Speight (Collegiate School, VA) - Threw 5 TDs and 207 yards before exiting in the second half in a blowout win. Collegiate is now 6-1.
Jared Wangler (Warren De La Salle, MI) - Wangler made six stops and recovered a fumble in a loss to Detroit CC. His team is now 4-3.
Brandon Watson (Eastern Christian Academy, MD) - ECA won to move to 6-1 on the season.
Maurice Ways (Detroit Country Day, MI) - Ways' team won easily this weekend, making them 5-3. They started 0-3 but rallied to win five straight contests.
Chase Winovich (Thomas Jefferson, PA) - Winovich busted one 46-yard run on offense and recorded 7 tackles, one of which was a sack, in a 35-0 route to push them to 7-0 on the season.
2015 Commitments
George Campbell (East Lake HS, FL) - Campbell delivered a crushing blow and scored a defensive touchdown to help his East Lake team move to 7-0 on the season. East Lake is one of the best high school teams in the country, fielding tons of elite BCS-level talent.
Shaun Crawford (St. Edward, OH) - Crawford started hot, scoring on an 80-yard run, but he would later cough the ball up three times in a losing effort, making St. Edward 6-1 on the year. Crawford was beat up before halftime and didn't come back into the game until the second half.
Andrew David (Washington, OH) - Wahington moves to 7-1 after a win this weekend.
Damien Harris (Madison Southern, KY) -Harris had 14 carries for 263 yards and 4 scores. He also returned an interception back 70 yards, helping his team move to 7-1 on the season.
Tyree Kinnel (Wayne, OH) - Wayne won and is now 7-1 on the season.
Jon Runyan Jr. (St. Joseph's Prep, PA) - St. Joseph's is now 6-1 after another victory.
Gold Star to Put on Momma's Refrigerator Award
This week's winner is Chase Winovich, who gets the award because it's unfair to let Damien Harris have all of the fun every week. Winovich is a dominant force on a very good high school team. His combination of length and explosiveness should give blockers fits at the next level.
