After waiting and waiting for what seemed like forever, the Michigan Men's Lacrosse team finally announced their schedule for 2014 on 11/18. Of the 15 games on Michigan's slate, seven of them are at home, and six pit the Wolverines against teams from last year's NCAA tournament: Penn State, Detroit, Cornell, Maryland, Ohio State, and Yale. In addition to those teams, Michigan will also face the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays in Baltimore on February 22.
The first home game (outside of an exhibition game in Oosterbaan against Marquette) will be against the Mercer Bears on Valentine's Day. Their next two contests will be on the road against the Detroit Titans and the aforementioned Blue Jays. Following the Johns Hopkins match-up, the Maize and Blue will take on Cornell on 3/1 at Michigan Stadium. The Cornell game is the beginning of a stretch of three games in one week; following the Big Red are road games at High Point on 3/5 and Furman on 3/8.
The Wolverines then return home for games against Maryland on 3/18 and Saint Joseph's on 3/22.
After match-ups with Air Force, Fairfield, and Ohio State, Michigan takes on Yale and Robert Morris as part of a double header with the Michigan Women's Lacrosse team at Michigan Stadium. The women will be facing off against Vanderbilt and Fresno State.
All in all, this is a tough schedule for the up-and-coming Michigan program. Facing six tournament teams is tough for anyone, but especially when you're just working on building your program. It's good exposure for the Wolverines, and seeing them play future B1G members Johns Hopkins and Maryland is pretty cool. Since this is Michigan's last year as a member of the ECAC, four of their match-ups are against foes from that conference: Bellarmine, Air Force, Fairfield, and Ohio State.
