There Are 111 Days to Michigan Football

Waiting for the opening Saturday of college football is agonizing. All we want is 13 weeks of Brent Musberger "pardner" one-liners, the buzz of Michigan Stadium in late November, and jokes about the Bowl Championship Series. Fear not, bleary-eyed traveler. This is a continuing series intended to get through the long, hot summer and back to the glory of football season.

The 111th edition of Michigan football book-ended their season with losses to Notre Dame and USC, but they hold a different distinction. Bo Schembechler's final team won a Big Ten title with an undefeated conference record. That was the first time Michigan finished the Big Ten unbeaten in nine seasons. There was only one All-American (Tripp Welborne), but the team stayed in the top ten for the entire season.

If that's not coaching, I don't know what is.
