Michigan spent the entirety of the 1973 season inside the top five. Team 95 was again a loaded Michigan team, and obliterated all opponents they faced. Until they played Ohio State. In the pre-overtime era of college football (which would last until the 1996 season amazingly), the rules also dictated that only one team per conference was allowed to go to a bowl. The conference athletic directors voted which team to send bowling, and when the Michigan-Ohio State game occurred that season it was not only for the conference title but for the bowl bid. Michigan played OSU to a bitter 10-10 tie, and guess which team got voted into a bowl. Team 95 is, in a cruel twist of fortune, the best to have never gotten the chance to play for a national championship.

This is a continuing series intended to get through the long, hot summer and back to the glory of football season.
