There Are Jake Long Days to Michigan Football

Waiting for the opening Saturday of college football is agonizing. All we want is 13 weeks of Brent Musberger "pardner" one-liners, the buzz of Michigan Stadium in late November, and jokes about the Bowl Championship Series. Fear not, bleary-eyed traveler. This is a continuing series intended to get through the long, hot summer and back to the glory of football season.

It is not a secret that Jake Long is the finest lineman to date at Michigan. So much so that he became the first Wolverine selected in the number one spot in the NFL draft in sixty one years. His presence on the line gave Michigan a valid excuse to run off-tackle left plays to their heart's content, even if it was the most aggravating form of "Lloydball." When a running game's strategy includes "run behind Jake Long," it gets a pass.
