There Are 48 Days to Michigan Football

Waiting for the opening Saturday of college football is agonizing. All we want is 13 weeks of Brent Musberger "pardner" one-liners, the buzz of Michigan Stadium in late November, and jokes about the Bowl Championship Series. Fear not, bleary-eyed traveler. Michigan does not have the most wins in college football by accident. The Wolverines were very, very good in 1948. The season before, they won the national championship, and then repeated the following year. Bennie Oosterbaan not only was a star for Michigan as a player, but he led Michigan into modern football as head coach. Five of their nine games that year were shutouts, and the defense only allowed 44 points the entire season.
