Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner earned Davey O’Brien Award preseason watch list honors Wednesday – the award presented to the nation’s best quarterback by the Davey O’Brien Foundation.

Gardner is one of three Big Ten quarterbacks on the watch list, as Nebraska'a Taylor Martinez and Ohio State's Braxton Miller made the list, too.

In a reserve role behind injured-starter Denard Robinson, the 6-foot-4 quarterback completed 75 passing attempts for 1,219 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 2012. He started his redshirt sophomore season as a wide receiver.

Gardner, alongside offensive tackle Taylor Lewan, was named to the Maxwell Award preseason watch list July 8. He will also represent Michigan at Big Ten Media Days on July 24 and 25.

The award announces the winner on the Home Depot College Football Awards show Dec. 12 on ESPN.
