Waiting for the opening Saturday of college football is agonizing. All we want is 13 weeks of Brent Musberger "pardner" one-liners, the buzz of Michigan Stadium in late November, and jokes about the Bowl Championship Series. Fear not, bleary-eyed traveler. This is a continuing series intended to get through the long, hot summer and back to the glory of football season.

Brandon Graham made whoever Michigan was playing that Saturday take notice of the whereabouts of a maize and blue defensive end. Graham did something many other Wolverines on the football roster did not: remained on the team through a coaching change. He endured some horrid football, but he kept playing for Michigan. A sure bright spot, then, has to be the 2009 comeback win against Notre Dame in Ann Arbor.
