Michigan stars Devin Gardner, Taylor Lewan make Maxwell Award list

The Maxwell Award put two Michigan football players on its preseason watch list Monday.

Watch list season continues with Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner and offensive tackle Taylor Lewan headlining the Maxwell Award list Monday – the trophy given to college football’s best player.

Tom Harmon (1940) and Desmond Howard (1991) are the only Michigan players to win the award.

This year’s winner will be announced Dec. 12.

Briefly: No former Michigan players are eligible for the 2013 NFL Supplemental Draft scheduled for July 11. The only eligible Big Ten player is Purdue wide receiver O.J. Ross.
