Waiting for the opening Saturday of college football is agonizing. All we want is 13 weeks of Brent Musberger "pardner" one-liners, the buzz of Michigan Stadium in late November, and jokes about the Bowl Championship Series. Fear not, bleary-eyed traveler. This is a continuing series intended to get through the long, hot summer and back to the glory of football season.

A salute to Ryan Van Bergen, Michigan's anchor on the defensive line that yielded an 11-2 season with a Sugar Bowl victory. Van Bergen not only has a great Twitter account (@VanBergen53), but he saw multiple positions on the field. Originally a defensive tackle, he moved to end his final two years, and hit the 100-tackle mark in 2011. And he's from Las Vegas, so Michigan fans know where to go for gambling tips.
