The USA Today Coaches Poll released its preseason top 25 on Thursday, and Michigan debuted at No. 17.
U-M (8-5) finished unranked in the Coaches Poll after South Carolina beat the Wolverines 33-28 in the 2013 Outback Bowl.
Ohio State ranked No. 2, the highest ranked Big Ten Conference team, behind defending national champion Alabama, followed by No. 18 Nebraska, No. 22 Northwestern, and No. 23 Wisconsin.
Michigan State (89) was the only other school in conference to receive votes in the poll.
U-M begins its 2013 schedule against Central Michigan at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 31 in Ann Arbor.
