It wasn't the prettiest game Michigan has ever played, but it got the job done.
Despite a quite sluggish first half.
During the first week of the season, it appeared that senior quarterback Devin Gardner had turned a corner. It only took a week to see the decision making and confidence issues that plagued him last season return against Notre Dame. After throwing three interceptions in South Bend, Gardner threw another interception Saturday, bringing his season total up to four.
Despite former Michigan quarterback Brian Griese questioning Gardner's comfortability in the offense on ESPN, Gardner believes he has a firm grasp on the offense.
"I feel like I'm really comfortable," Gardner said. "Today I felt like even though we were not converting on third down in the first half the way we wanted to, I felt like I didn't press like the last game, I pressed a little bit and it hurt us. I kept with the gameplan, the fundamentals and things I have been taught to do.
"It worked out for us and I feel like if I do that every game we'll be fine."
The running game paced Michigan to a 34-10 victory over Miami, but not without their share of struggles in the first half. Gardner, and his offense, bounced back from the turnovers and finished with 184-yards and two touchdowns through the air. The offense finished with three turnovers, bringing their total to seven in three games.
"Turnovers are going to happen, (Amara) Darboh he had a fumble and I had to let him know that it happens," Gardner said. "We just have to rebound, that's why we're a team. That's why this is the greatest team sport."
Michigan (2-1) will face Utah (2-0) on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 3:30 p.m. (ABC/ESPN 2).
