What we know regarding Fred Jackson and Michigan

Maize n Brew spoke with someone close to longtime Michigan running backs coach Fred Jackson to discuss the future between him and the football program.

I just recently spoke with someone close to Fred Jackson, Michigan running back coach for the past 27 seasons, and had a relatively brief talk to discuss what the future may hold for Jackson on Jim Harbaugh's staff or if there's a future at all.

Here's what I know:

- When looking at the MCommunity Directory, a Fred Jackson is listed as a retiree from the University of Michigan. I asked my source whether Jackson has indeed retired and received the following: "He isn't sure yet. It's a possibility unless anything changes. He's not stressed about anything though."

- According to my source close to Jackson, he has confirmed with me that Jackson and Harbaugh have talked, but nothing specific was discussed.

- Asked whether Jackson will be back with the staff in some capacity in 2015. My source said that he "hasn't gotten confirmation on anything".

The situation between Michigan and Jackson will start to become more clear in the coming days. At this point, I will be surprised if he returns as running backs coach in 2015.
